What’s going on with the quality of M&S clothing?

Bought some boots last month and had to return them last week as the heel was completely coming away - even the assistant looked a bit shocked.
Then bought a merino wool jumper on Saturday. I’ve worn it once and washed it. Was just folding it up and I’ve discovered a large hole in the front of it! I’ve still got the receipt fortunately, so that will be returned too.

The quality o their clothes has gone slowly downhill or a few years now.
At one time I bought just about everything there, now very rarely, except for tights and knickers and sometimes bras.

Menswear is still good, it's just womenswear that's gone to pot.

I've had exactly the same - some boots where the sole has nearly worn away after only a few months wear and a jumper that looked about ten years old after one wear because it went so bobbly!! Jumper went back, boots will be too as soon as I have time.

Womens stuff has gone down hill. T-shirts really thin and loosing shape. That'd before I mention polyester t-shirts no thanks!

My DSs 8-9 school polo's from last year are bigger than this years 9-10sConfused
I think they might have shrunk in the wash but it doesn't really make sense when they get washed with last years.

I love their merino and cashmere, not had any problems. I also like their jeans and knickers. I avoid the rest!

I don’t buy a great deal from there but I love their Ivy jeans and went online to order a couple of pairs earlier today and they’ve stopped selling them in Indigo. I’m so disappointed. They only have black, blue-black, dark indigo, grey and white listed.

I found someone selling them on Amazon and got the last two pairs in my size.

I agree the quality of womenswear has gone down. I recently really liked the colour of a hooded top but when I felt the material it was incredibly thin. The whole idea was to buy a warm top!

Then upstairs in the men's department there were lots of amazing tops which were great quality. I felt like I was visiting two different shops.

I have seen lots of things in M&S womenswear that I have wanted to buy recently - which I haven't really felt before. But unfortunately the thin material of it all has let it down (other tops besides the hooded one).

However, I do really want to shop there in preference to other shops because I feel that they make good efforts with regard to their environmental and sustainability.

I really hope that things improve.

Yep!

I just started a thread on this a few days ago. The last 4 item I purchased have had holes in within one wash. The Christmas PJs I purchased had a hole in them before I'd even washed them! I noticed Christmas Day!

It's all this recycled polyester and eco stuff . Cashmere , jeans and underwear great but most of their knitwear is really bad.

I bought 4 identical pairs of everyday trousers because I was so pleased with the first pair. All were different lengths (though they all said regular) and all got shorter in a 30° wash. Rubbish.
