Ideas for non girly leavers ball outfit?

DSD is 17 and has her school leavers ball coming up. She’s never been a girly girl but most recently has got into skater style/kind of grungy and really won’t wear a dress or heels.

Any inspiration for something special that isn’t too girly? Obviously it would be her choice but I’d like to show her some inspiration as right now she’s stressed out by it despite the fact the ball isn’t until May!

DD wore this suit to a wedding recently with a sort of 80s bustier but also tried it with a minimal sheer top too. Wide leg trousers with a cropped leather jacket is a favourite look for her too.

Or, what a grungy skater would wear to the ball? That would be 90s slip dress and trainers I think.

Thanks @SwayingInTime love the colour of that suit. Yep, totally get your point about the slip dress but she’s adamant she’s not wearing a dress.

DD wore a tux and looked absolutely fantastic - she did the whole works, white shirt, bow tie etc, but you could also wear a similar outfit with a silk croptop etc. Hers was from Zara, there's several of them on ebay in different sizes (I'm guessing plenty of girls buy them for a prom then resell)

Can’t she wear a DJ and dress trousers with trainers?

Sexnotgender · 29/01/2022 19:10

Would she wear something like this? I think it’s pretty awesome.

DD wore oxblood DMs with her tux.

My daughter wore a tux with converse. Easier for dancing!

DD deliberated between that Ted Baker outfit and some similar 'co-ord' sets and the suit but thought she might wear the suit again.

I would go for something like this (as a non-girly ex teenage goth haha)

That’s lovely. It’s times like this I wish I was tall.

Love a leather jacket over a nice outfit. I wore a leather jacket over my wedding dress 😂

seconding, thirding and fouthing DJ or all in one. Also seconding etc why she needs to wear heels - can't stand 'em myself, can barely stand in them let alone dance. You can get some lovely sparkly converses / DMs - much better for dancing.

DD wore an all in one in black with a little bit of sparkle and she looks fantastic.

High waist trousers and a crop top or silk pyjama type evening outfit.
