Was anyone else happy to get the Gudrun catalogue this morning?

I love some of their things, but try to keep to one or two pieces per season. My adult DD says it's for "elderly hippies" but her style is not mine.

Anyone else a Gudrun fan?

I don't get the catalogue but I looked at the website, I like some of it but quite a few outfits lol like the sort of things traditional crafters would wear, if you see what I mean. It's a bit pricy for me but the sales is really good.

GettingStuffed I agree, I know a potter who always looks as though she's stepped out of the catalogue.

I find I have to choose carefully to avoid that look.

I have got the catalogue previously and lusted after the looks but in reality big and baggy things really don’t suit me. I now wear more tailored and look much slimmer. However, I am watching some interesting items on ebay like felted coats, which if cheap enough, I will try and introduce into my wardrobe as I like quirky. Have several WRAP things with big poppers for instance.

I’ve been a Gudrun fan for several decades but feel her styles have become very ‘samey’ in recent years: lots of oversized brightly coloured smocks and what can only be described as a ‘creepy Victorian toddler’ vibe to some of it. I stalk items from her earlier collections on eBay and really hope she returns to form soon.

It's expensive. You see something nice in a photo and then, on closer inspection you also need to buy a ££ petticoat to go underneath.

FourChimneys · 22/01/2022 20:19

Yes, it's expensive and I find I have to pick really carefully. Not a fan of the very baggy smocks etc but I usually find one or two things to order. I have a mac which is six years old and gets loads of comments still.

I agree @Craftycorvid
I used to get the catalogue and want something on every page. Now I rarely like the dresses as they are so floaty which doesn’t suit 5ft, fat & 50 Grin

I do love the shoes and boots though. I’ve had some lovely pairs over the years & they’re great for wide feet.

Quite like some of the jumpers too.

Love the stuff but have to choose carefully as I’m very short. Recently got some boots in the sale and have ordered a coat.

I am new to this brand and joined a facebook market place page for it because I cannot justify paying the original prices. Lots of fans all over the world on it, mainly in the US, and without sounding mean it's a look that is quite tricky to pull off going by some of the photos posted.
Some of the pieces on the website look great on the admittedly young and beautiful models but others are hit and miss. I think the trick is moderation as some of the patterns are pretty out there but there is some lovely knitwear and fitted linen smock type things.

Craftycorvid · 23/01/2022 10:41

Some of her pieces (as I have found to my cost) only really work as an ensemble with other pieces from the same collection. You either have to commit to making a pretty bold statement or making expensive errors. I did once spot a lady wearing Gudrun head to toe in a challenging orange and lime green colour combination - it worked because she wore it with confidence. I do wear quite a bit of Gudrun but mainly the items that work well over a pair of jeans rather than looking like fancy dress. (Not that I mind making quite a statement myself Grin).

shergarsrevenge · 23/01/2022 11:29

Agree @Craftycorvid. The stripey leggings and loud patterns can be a bit fancy dress but there's the odd plain top with embroidery that looks really nice.
