Il makiage... anyone tired this?

I saw an advert for this company a few days ago.
Twisted my arm and I decided to do the quiz about what shade of foundation would suit me best so just waiting for it to arrive.

Apparently people are raving about it, saying it looks like you aren't wearing any foundation as it blends so well with the neck colour.

I just want something that covers small
blemishes but doesn't contrast too much with my neck colour and hopefully that it stays on all day. Sometimes my own foundation stays but looks patchy and settles into lines or sets in areas and up close looks awful.

So hoping to hear if anyone else has bought this and it it's any good?

I bought it. The colour match was really good but the foundation itself is awful on me. Really dry and cakey no matter how I apply and blend it. I haven't used it at all and have gone back to my old foundation. Maybe it is better on younger skin than mine (early 40s).

Lookingoutside · 16/01/2022 19:29

I got the concealer and don’t feel the need for foundation, just tinted moisturiser. it’s very hydrating and skin like. I use it under my eyes and anywhere I have redness with the beauty pie concealer brush.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 16/01/2022 19:31

I've just returned mine. I liked the concealer but the foundation looked awful. Good colour match but cakey and drying

JellyTots2009 · 16/01/2022 21:31

Ah ok well I will definitely be checking through out the day how it's looking.
It's a shame that it's Cakey because in the advert a woman is saying how it's not cakey like her other foundation.

Thanks for replying

Got the foundation a while ago. Excellent colour match!

tigerbear · 16/01/2022 22:45

Very drying and cakey, not worth the ££

GettingMarriedAgain · 16/01/2022 23:19

I got this - I found it only worked if I mixed loads of moisturiser with it before applying but it dries quite quickly so I had to get it on fast for it to look ok. The colour was very good though.

The concealer sounds better.

JetBlackSteed · 16/01/2022 23:23

Excellent colour match. Really good.
But zero refunds on the ones that weren't. Still arguing with them.

JellyTots2009 · 24/01/2022 21:54

Well my parcel never came so I got In touch. They sent a replacement and an e-gift card for £15 which I thought was really nice of them.

But I received the foundation this morning. Tried it and instantly saw it was a different shade to my neck and a bit orangey. I also applied twice because the coverage was too light.

It has sat really well on me all day just not happy with the shade. My fault because I took the quiz and that's what I was matched with.
So I got back in touch with them and they have been amazing again! I answered some questions and they are sending a different shade out for me at no extra cost.

So their customer service is absolutely amazing

I tried it and didn't like it. I found it very thick and not a natural look at all. It also just wasn't enjoyable to apply. Took a lot of blending.
I also didn't get the good customer service you did op, so at least they've improved there since I made the mistake of buying from them!

Tbh, I think they're all about marketing, mainly on SM.

peachgreen · 24/01/2022 22:07

I like the concealer well enough, though it's not any better than what you can get on the high street. The foundation is atrocious though - horrible formula, so cakey and prone to pilling.

pastypirate · 24/01/2022 22:15

Concealer is fantastic but based on this thread I'm not going to get the foundation

dicdicnurse · 24/01/2022 22:20

I tried the foundation and the first shade was wrong, contacted them and they were brilliant, a new shade was delivered within days.
Not entirely sold on it though, coverage isn't great.

ShagMeRiggins · 24/01/2022 22:26

I’m over 40 and absolutely love the coverage of the makeup. Also love the concealer.

No cake/pulling whatsoever, but I take care to do skin care routine:

Wash properly
Eye cream
Vitamin C serum on face
Moisturiser

If not wearing makeup, that’s it. If wearing makeup:

Primer—this step cannot be ignored, hugely important
Foundation — applied directly to a flat kabuki brush (very important), then use the brush to apply and blend into face simultaneously. I don’t put on the foundation with fingers and then blend.

Concealer I do afterward as necessary and with a different brush and technique.

After blending again I might brush on a bit of powder or very light mineral bronze powder (again, different brush).

Let us know how you get on with the new colour, OP.

peachgreen · 24/01/2022 23:33

@ShagMeRiggins I have a good skincare routine, use primer and apply with a brush but still found the formula cheap and nasty. When did you buy your bottle? There are rumours they changed it during the pandemic so perhaps that's why?

Bussinbussin · 24/01/2022 23:39

I've learned the hard way to ignore rave reviews on social media for any product. So easy to fake. How often do you see a cool new product on Facebook/Insta inundated with reviews from people who've somehow already managed to buy and use it? And the endless 'do you ship to South Africa/Mexico/Laos?' posts to get ahead of the algorithm and make it look like it's a worldwide phenomenon?

I was almost swayed by IM but the reviews aren't so good on other sites, including here.

ShagMeRiggins · 24/01/2022 23:40

Less than six months ago, peachgreen!

I’m wondering if it’s about expectations regarding coverage as well. One person’s great coverage is another one’s this is awful. Age and overall style would have a lot to do with that, I suppose.

Also, I’m sure most of the people saying it didn’t work for them have excellent skin care routines and know all about hydration, etc. I hope it didn’t come across otherwise. Was just explaining to OP that it works really well for me and this is how I do it.

What foundation do you use, purely out of curiosity. I’m always open to learning and trying.

ElinorOliphant · 25/01/2022 00:27

I bought this recently, the first colour they sent was too orange so they sent me another one which was loads better.

I don’t find it drying and it blends brilliantly with a brush or beauty blender. I also apply my powder with a beauty blender as it stops me looking powdery. It’s the easiest to blend compared to others IMO.

You’re right, the customer service is amazing. I can’t believe they didn’t want the other bottle back!

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 25/01/2022 00:59

The concealer is the best I've used (and I have horrific dark circles - I've tried just about everything).

I didn't like the foundation at all though - I didn't like the smell or the formulation.

miraveile · 25/01/2022 02:01

Awful foundation, don't do it

Schlerp · 25/01/2022 02:05

Bought the concealer for my teenage daughter after she saw the ad and it caked and gave her a wrinkled look where there are no wrinkles. Send it back and got refund thankfully.

SarahJessicaParker3 · 25/01/2022 05:44

I think they are happy to not get bottles of foundation back because they probably cannot resell them and also, the product itself is probably not very expensive to produce. They have clearly sunk a lot into marketing on social media which is what you are paying for. The product itself probably costs pennies to make, so it's not a big deal for them to lose a bottle. Even the established high end brands do this btw. It isn't just Il Makiage. But I wouldn't see them not wanting their merchandise back as a sign of great quality.

peachgreen · 25/01/2022 08:41

@ShagMeRiggins At the moment I'm back to Estée Lauder but I don't love it. I'm always searching for the holy grail of foundation that gives coverage but isn't cakey, is hydrating but not shiny etc etc - I'm probably asking for miracles!

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 25/01/2022 08:58

I've been using it a few months now and love it. As per PPs I've had multiple £15 vouchers and an incorrect shade at first which was replaced at no cost.

I also have the concealer, eyebrow pen and mascara and am a complete convert.

The customer service is second to none.

Based on various other foundation threads, I got the No 7 hydraluminous foundation to try and I absolutely love it!! Think my skin looks amazing with it on, and it's only £15!
