Can anyone help be find an amazing party dress?

I have a family party coming up in the next few months (so there is no rush, but I like to be organised!). I'd really like a party dress, I've not been out much since my DS was born and haven't been to a good party in year! ( although I was quite a party animal in my youth!). I'm blonde and pale, early 40's, size 8-10, average height.

I have totally lost my way with what to wear to occasions, I wear jeans or floral maxi dresses by day and loungewear in the evenings these days! I'm not scared or colour and I'm thinking of sequins..........never worn them before, I'm wondering if sequins would be ok for a spring/summer party or if they're just for Christmas! Help me fashionistas! Grin

I should have also mentioned that I generally shop at Next, Oasis, Seasalt. I'd really like to have some thing a bit more expensive and well made and maybe even something a bit unusual? Even eye catching? But not revealing, not asking for much am I...

Any good website you can point me too would be great. I want to dress my age but not be too Mumsy and finding it really hard.

I like mint velvet for this kind of thing. There are two good sequin dressed in their sale on this page here which might fit the bill.

@user1477249785 thank you, I think I'd like something a bit higher end, it's quite a special occasion, although it is also 'just' a party. I found these, not sure they are quite right....... or very trendy!

The first one looks like a dancers stage costume to me, don't like the sleeves of the second but that's just personal opinion. I love the 3rd but not sure about for a summer party. Is it an evening thing? Not bought a dress in a few years but I used to love french connection, ted baker and lipsy for dresses.

Sequin dresses are a bit odd for a spring / summer party particularly gold. What about something in a simple fabric with a sequined shrug perfume the op.

Does it have to be a dress? What about a luxurious jumpsuit? They are super versatile and all down to the heal and accessories. Phase eight have some nice ones for around 100- 200. Depends on your style but they have quite safe trad jumpsuits along with more edgy.

Or dress wise these might suit your colouring

Or if your budget is a bit more and up for a statement and want the sequins have a look at Wolf and Badger they have some great 80s inspired bits if it's your budget and style just search through their cocktail dresses. They are quite big personally though but fun.

I'd recommend Wolf & Badger for something different from the high street. Great independent designers. This caught my eye but there are loads.

Thank you everyone, yes I agree that none of the dresses I've posted are right - it was just to give an idea. I'm totally lost to be honest.

To clarify, it will be an evening party combining 4 big birthdays in my wider family.

What do proper wear to these kind of parties?

I love the idea of a jumpsuit but I'm not sure if I can pull them off - I've got boobs that are quite large for my frame (F cup) and my bottom is not what it once was! I've been hiding it in fit and flare dresses for years. These seem to work well for weddings and day time events but not sure about an evening party with band/disco.

I'll have a look at all the links later what DS is in bed and I can give the clothes the attention they deserve! Smile

You may have to wait for the spring season to drop as there seems to be mostly autumn winter wear from what I can see at the moment still.

I quite like this Reiss dress, but it would depend on the event whether it would go
