If the jeans that look best are M&S boyfriend, are there any out there similar shape that are better?

M&S jeans don't seem to last in good nick for very long. I quite want a really good pair of jeans but haven't been able to find ones that suit.

I've got a small bum (size 14, but dense!) but my thighs are quite chunky so skinny jeans are no good. However, straight cut to the ankle seem to look shite and make me look scruffy. I don't want cropped.

Not Your Daughter's Jeans were unflattering on the thighs. Levi's 501 looked good at the top but only cropped available in the shop to try on.

Any suggestions for good brands? I would like dark-ish denim, heavy-ish material.

I've just bought the M&S balloon jeans and they look and feel great.

I've never seen jeans like that, LondonLass! (I am not v fashionable tbh). I will have a look at them in real life.

I have just bought jeans from Asda of all places. They are called 'miley' mom jeans.
They fit nicely round the bum and are high waisted so hold the stomach in nicely too.
Baggier round the things and come in narrower at the ankles again.
Only £14!!

Boden girlfriend jeans. I got them in grey and love them so much I ordered black and am waiting for dark indigo. They often do 10% off, and 20% off new season.

They are really nicely tapered or you could roll them up. I feel very French in them. I feel like if Audrey Hepburn wore jeans these are the ones she would wear.

I love the idea of wearing Audrey Hepburn's jeans, but...

River Island jeans are fab

I have the M&S balloon jeans too, they have a 1990s French exchange student vibe but I like them a lot!

I also have their boyfriend jeans but am wearing straight leg ones at the moment as I don’t like chilly ankles.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 10/01/2022 23:51

I cut down the turn ups on mine because I was cold! They look much better than the Sienna straight ones on me and I don't know why.

I love M&S jeans at the start (good fit, length, proper 'straight' leg etc.) but they get this really odd stretched thing around the crotch and along the seams.
I'd love to find a replacement that lasts. I had a look at Levis but I can't see any really nice straight leg ones, and I'd love some proper cotton denim with no elastane or whatever it is that gives stretch.
So watching with interest!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 11/01/2022 18:55

Exactly - it's the sagginess that comes with the stretch and the weird worn stripes that I'm keen to go beyond. I'm tempted by the Boden ones because I do very much want to feel like Audrey Hepburn, but I think it's quite likely that Audrey was the size of one of my thighs.

Levi red tab.

I have big thighs op. Are you pear shape? I am with a flat bum and have found the mom style jeans the way forward.

River Island do a mom jean that is 100% cotton. Recommend sizing up. The problem is with 100% cotton then it can be tight on the waist. I had this cinched waist and then when I sat it dug in and there was this spreading of my hips that looked not so good. 99% cotton and 1% elastane is the sweetspot.

Mango do a lot of 100% cotton jeans but I've not tried these.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 11/01/2022 23:12

I'm not actually pearshape - I'm more of a sturdy rectangle. My thighs aren't particularly wide at the top, they're solid all the way down. I used to have damn good legs, once upon a time, but then I spent 30 years eating just a little bit too much and it's caught up with me.

Good tip about the 1% stretch, thank you.
