Wardrobe for WFH

I could have done with starting this thread almost two years ago, but better late than never! I'm looking for WFH outfits that look smart enough on Teams calls (often all day every day, yawn), but that are comfy to wear and easy to wash.

I've been doing newsreader chic, but it feels wrong, so I'd rather smart casual outfits that look work-ready for talking at a screen all day but don't look out of place for school run.

@TriciaMcMillan then it will be the best £7 you’ve spent Grin. I forgot to put them on when I answered a call earlier and was horrified by how my face looked without them.

If your necklace game is strong, that's half the battle. It's easy to forget how very little of you can actually be seen on a Zoom call. Hit Etsy for some interesting but your style necklaces. Then get some smart but warm cardigans. Plain coloured interchangeable tops - those heat retaining ones if your house is chilly - and you're sorted.

I wear leggings and a heated throw bottom half. Thin jumpers with statemenr necklaces top half when on calls and a huge fleece over the top of that when not on calls.

Also I find lipstick helps me look more polished for teams calls.

I wear glasses already and have just ordered some teal ones. What kind of necklace will make me look current (I work with people half my age)? Used to love a statement one until I read (probs on mumsnet) that they were a bit loose women.

Cashmere jumpers and I sit on a sheepskin and have a heated pad underneath / behind my back.

Consider me sold!

I'm currently sat in a pair of £6 Aztec print harem pants from Primark, and a giant oversized sweatshirt from Asos, towel still wrapped round my head from getting out of shower at 8:10 this morning and my lovely Emu sheepskin slippers. Rather an eclectic style today if I do say so myself.😂😂

Ooo I've been needing this thread for ages!

I find that a bit of lipstick and (blue light - cheapo Amazon) glasses make a big difference. Totally agree @BangingOn I look weird on a call without them now!

I actually met all my colleagues in-person for the first time a couple weeks ago and wasn't sure if I should still wear the glasses as they've never seen me without them 😂

I made an effort and wore:

-navy merino jumper, necklace
-silk spotted blouse and navy cardi

Need to dig out some outfits for next week to keep this up!

Also cashmere jumpers here. Joggers (I've got some lovely soft pairs now) or leggings on the bottom. Thick socks, birkenstocks.

I think brushing hair, earrings and make up really help. My screen only shows me from the neck up. If I'm in a really formal thing I might put a blouse on top of my leggings.

I tried not to wear joggers but decided that lovely joggers (not the old baggy Next pairs at the back of my cupboard) in nice materials make me feel good. As well as being warm and practical. I really cba to put tights on.

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 07/01/2022 15:04

Nice jumper or cardigan, hand knit shawl if I get cold, and black joggers on my lower half: warm and comfy but look like black trousers and not noticeably scruffy if I forget myself on camera and stand up.

Wool socks and ugg-type boot slippers

Passthecake30 · 07/01/2022 15:37

Lots of women seem be be wearing scarves on the calls I’m in lately. I tend to go for a long sleeve tops and cardigan if I need to be smart (ish) and then replace the cardigan for a hoody when I’m finished. And joggers/jeans and slippers.

bouncydog · 07/01/2022 19:40

Jeans, socks, Ugg slippers, sweatshirts with a fleece or quilted gilet on top. For formal meetings top swapped for white shirt or jacket and smart top. Sometimes cashmere jumper/cardigan and pearls! (I’m that age)! Always do my hair and wear jewellery. Colleagues dress in a similar manner although some admit to pj bottoms and Ugg boots!
