£40 to spend at John Lewis - what to buy?

I was given a £50 voucher for Christmas. I went into the store today but could only find a lipstick to buy. So now I have £40 left. I was pretty uninspired. Tell me what you would buy before I spend it on a new stick blender!

I would be very boring and spend it at Waitrose instead.

duvetdayforeveryone · 29/12/2021 16:23

If I had to spend the vouchers at John Lewis I would buy Matt & Nat Recycled Purity Collection Met Phone Vegan Cross Body Bag for £42

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2021 16:24

Fantasie bra?
Dressing gown?
Perfume?
Candles?

Tbh though, if you want a new stick blender you should get it!

If you want more beauty items, it might be worth posting on the Style and Beauty sub-forum.

I’d wait until the new season’s clothes are in and out it towards something nice for spring.

ReluctantEarlyRiser · 29/12/2021 16:39

We do need a new stick blender but this is basically my one Christmas present and seems a bit rubbish to spend the voucher on something practical for the whole family. Then again, I'll end up buying it anyway so may as well get it for free.....

I have a dressing gown and I don't wear perfume but I suppose I could start!

Olaplex shampoo and conditioner

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/12/2021 16:44

A bra, properly fitted.

fruitpastille · 29/12/2021 16:45

Buy the stick blender with the voucher and withdraw 40 quid in cash from the bank to spend in a shop of your choice.

LethargicActress · 29/12/2021 16:46

I received the same and bought an Amazon echo dot for the bedroom. If I’d been going down the style and beauty route I’d probably have bought some aveda hair products.

Innocenta · 29/12/2021 16:50

Definitely put it towards a perfume, unless you hate scents! Or Olaplex oil / the main Olaplex.

ReluctantEarlyRiser · 29/12/2021 17:19

Wow perfume is expensive! I had no idea Confused

I buy lots from John Lewis. They have so many brands now so always clothing that I like. How about just upgrading something you already own if you are not keen on a lot of the clothing. So say you have black jeans buy a new pair. Or out towards a pair of shoes.
I buy brands such as Boden fat face and monsoon from John Lewis and also white stuff they have a brand that I’ve discovered recently called finery. Some gorgeous dresses.

SallyOMalley · 29/12/2021 18:12

I'm in the same position. Spotted a gorgeous jumper in the sale, dropped it into my basket yesterday but didn't have my gift card to hand so couldn't check out.

Went back a few hours later and they were all gone. Gah. Lesson learned.

Back to square one!

Tiggytico · 29/12/2021 18:19

A silk pillowcase. Had one for Christmas and already funding my hair is less frizzy in the morning!

GoGoGretaDoll · 29/12/2021 18:23

If you're not a perfume person, then a gorgeous shower gel - I think they do a Neom foaming one for a tenner that will make every day feel a little bit nicer - or a nice candle. I've done a lot of that over lockdown - just upgrading the day to day things a tiny bit so I can take more joy in everyday rituals. Am a bit obsessed with mid-price candles now (though got loads for Christmas) and I think will be spending some Christmas money on really nice socks!

PoodleKaboodle · 29/12/2021 18:43

An electric diffuser and some oils?
They have one that was £40 down to £20 and the winter oils are half price too, £5.

M&as also sell Finery now in case you didn't know

£40 I would spend towards perfume or a candle or cashmere socks

YSL Libre perfume

JMAngel1 · 29/12/2021 21:05

I’d get Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue Cream. I got a sample a few weeks ago and it is amazing. My eye bags are reduced and my skin around the eyes is waaaay more moisturised. And I usually use serum, eye cream and oil around my eyes but this has made a huge difference.
