I need more glow!

I’m naturally pale, and have used same make up forever, currently use Revlon Candid foundation, some under eye lightener style concealer, blush, pale grey eye shadow.

I look washed out, not very confident with highlighter and bronzer due to both not knowing which colours to use and also where to put it in my face!

Any tips please. I’m early 50’s so steer clear of any product with shimmer.

Also agree about St Ives, it’s like putting sandpaper on your face.

I’ve recently bought this which seems quite foolproof to apply.

I would have said it gives glow rather than shimmer.

I use lactic acidosis from the Ordinary, it’s very gentle. Plus vitamin c serum really helps.

Makeup wise I’m pale and really like glossier bronzing cream in flare, it’s so subtle it’s barely bronzer but makes me look healthier.I use it with a bit of the cloud paint blush in beam (peach). I’d avoid powders altogether.

Can you use chemical exfoliants with trentinoin?

@Icenii

Can you use chemical exfoliants with trentinoin?
Yes. Initially I did 2x per week without Tret.

But now I do in the morning and do a moisture mask instead on my Tret days off

As PP said, a little bit of fake tan does wonders. Isle of Paradise or I prefer St Tropez serum. I use it a couple of times a week at night. Wake up in the morning looking like I've had a great nights sleep!

I'd focus on your skin as much as possible - best glow I've had is from good skin - it really does shine through any other stuff you put on top.

A good retinol for your skin
Vitamin C serum
Sunscreen to cope with the above two

A glycolic toner
A gradual tanner
Charlotte tilbury flawless filter
A light foundation

You probably would find after this you don't need actual fake 'glow' imparted by highlighters. But you might want a light float powder just for cheekbones.

  • glowy, not float!

I’m in my 60s.
I use Laura Mercier Illuminating Primer. It does have a bit of shimmer but I either apply it before my makeup or mix it with my makeup.
It does wonders for perking up my dull face, and I’m on my fourth or fifth tube - I’ve used it for years now.
I recommend it highly.

I stopped wearing foundation about 3 years ago never thought I'd do that! 52 years old, I now concentrate on skin care, I use Liz Earle cleanse and polish, toner and light moisturiser, I still use blusher a cream one not powder, I still wear eyeshadow, mascara etc but not loads, usually a lip balm occasionally a lipstick in a neutral tone. I feel much more confident than I would have 10 years ago but definitely feel that skin care is the way forward. Good luck OP x

Inkey List vitamin C and Lactic Acid have both been good on my very sensitive skin OP - I keep them both out of the area directly around my nose, as that is where I gave myself peri-oral dermatitis a few years ago using a strong (The Ordinary) Vit C serum

Deathraystare · 03/01/2022 08:40

I'd step away from the St Ives, it can scratch and damage the skin.

God yes. I remember a dermatologist on you tube speaking about things you should NOT put on your face and this was one of them.

I am 59 and feel v washed out as my hair has lost it’s pigment over time ( it looks more bleached blonde than grey ) so have decided to channel Joanna Lumley and up my make up game with smokey eye and pink lips as well as bright scarves.
I also discovered Ole Henriksen Phat Glow Facial as a special deal on Boots £10 Tuesday ( usually £45 ) and have since re-stocked off ebay. Twice a week face mask, see below :
“An age-fighting face mask that works like a facial, with potent PHAs and Nordic birch sap, to instantly exfoliate, illuminate and brighten skin. Apply an even layer to clean, dry face. Massage until it transforms from pink to white. Leave on for 15 minutes. Remove with a damp wash cloth. Use 2 times per week, day or night. Can be used before makeup application. For external use only. Use as directed. Do not use on eye or lip area.”
