Brown mascara

I have used black mascara religiously for years and years, especially since reading a beauty writer declare that brown mascara is totally pointless. I have dark blonde hair and green eyes, with mid-brown eyelashes and eyebrows.

My heart sunk a bit when I opened a brown Eyeko mascara in my M&S beauty advent calendar but having tried it I cannot believe how flattering it is. Is this a getting older thing? (I am approaching forty). I feel like I should never listen to another beauty writer again.

@Herja, yes the YSL mascara is a bit much for me too but thanks to somebody perfectly timing their mention of it I got the Black Friday offer with 30% off and some freebies 🥳

I had a cobalt blue mascara years ago which I loved (and I think came from either Bourjois or Miss Selfridge) but I'm also sure I've had a plum/burgundy one more recently that was Maybelline? I have no idea whether they still make it.

My go to brown eye pencil for years has been Sable by Rimmel, which I keep coming back to regardless of how many fancy ones I accumulate in other colours

I like lash alert by eyeko. It comes in purple and blue as well as black and brown

I agree op. I got the Eyeko mascara from the advent calendar too and it’s great. I’ve bought the full size version too.

I have the purple Maybelline tubing mascara which I get compliments on almost every time I wear it. I bought it in NY and I cannot find it for love nor money where I am. So I use it very sparingly now. But I always wear brown, as black is just too stark for my colouring. But brown is getting very difficult to find as well. I don't know why most manufacturers think we only like black.

Even brown black is black. I don't know why they even put the brown bit in the name of it.

ELF does a £6 one. Brown is so much more flattering with my colouring.

I like Eyeko cocoa edit mascara they do a liner to match, a felt tip pen type its good

A couple of decades ago the "cool girl" at school told me that brown mascara suited me much better than black mascara. It took me a while to realise she was right! I am pale as fuck, dirty blonde hair, green eyes. Black looks like I've drawn on myself. Brown mascara ftw.

Kiko milano dors a big range of colours, I don't suit brown as I have cool coolouring but wear grey which I guess is the cool equivalent. They also have navy which I love

Growth Building By Terry Terribly Mascara in "purple success" - highly recommend! A make up artist recommended this for me, I would never have gone for purple. However your eyelashes dont look purple when you wear it, it's just more flattering somehow! I have re-purchased this three times now since her initial recommendation.

I've been thinking for a while now that black mascara looks too harsh on me now that I'm older.

Brown doesn't suit my cool toned light skin, blue eyes.

Just order the Kiko anthracite mascara which is a dark grey. Looking forward to it arriving tomorrow.

Oh thanks! What I'd give to be in water anywhere near 37C! I'm usually in freezing rain! 😂

I did a colour analysis with house of colour a couple of years ago and one of the things they go through is makeup. I am a spring which means I am a warm skin tone suited to bright, warm colours and brown mascara is perfect for me. I will never wear black again after seeing the difference!!!

Bought my first brown Mascara as a result of this thread, rimmel scandalese, very impressed, a great day to day look. Quite subtle at work when I'm wearing no other make up but mascara

Ive always worn brown mascara and the best one I've found is maybelline lash sensational, I get it from Amazon as the brown isn't always available in store. Get a lot of comments!
