There is a woman I see locally, she's my age, my height, my build, wears similar clothes to me. We are different colouring and my clothing is more colourful. I wear my hair in different styles. I've been looking for some sort of coat for the cold, dry days.

This woman wears her hair and clothes in the same style all the time. Head to toe black, short dresses and big boots, her boots and accessories are more boho than mine they are gorgeous!

Now the weather is colder she's wearing - I don't know whether it's a huge scarf, a cape or a poncho. It wraps around her at least twice, I think it's a scarf, if so it must be a metre wide and two metres long. She never seems to need to adjust it, so it seems fixed, so maybe a poncho or cape but it does look like it is layered at least twice.

Whatever it is, I saw it and thought 'that's it! That's the warm wrap that I have been looking for!

I don't see her enough for it to be a problem if I wear something similar. Besides, I would choose a different colour.

What is this scarf/wrap/poncho/cape that she is wearing? And where can I get one?

Yes, could be that sort of thing in a plain colour and I would like a plain colour too.
She must wrap the front around herself either side, making it look like one piece and do something to the back so that it is shorter. It could be that she has sewn the back so that it sits like a scarf at the back.

Ask her! Seriously, people love to be complimented on their taste and chances are she'll say where she got it (then come and tell us!)

Depending on what she is doing, and obviously we don’t know but she could have it in position by using an actual leather belt, or have ribbon/string ties on the side, or 2 ties at the back section that could tie at the front then she’d be free to arrange the side across herself !!

I've tried to speak to her before now, I said something pleasant and mindless and she really snapped right back at me! So I'm thinking that maybe I won't ask her!

My feeling is that it's a huge scarf, that she has sewn or keeps it in place, with a brooch (she does wear a brooch on it). Or brooches which keep it in place permanently.

The length of the poncho is about right BingleBong, hers doesn't have tassels and rather than hanging straight down it wraps around her body.

That's the closest yet nanbread, I might order one on Try Before You Buy and see whether I can get it to wrap around a bit more if I sewed or pinned it up.

I'm not sure that I'm explaining myself well but what I'm looking for wraps like the one that BingleBong found, the length is more like nanbread's link. Which is why I'm talking about seeing whether I could make it wrap more. It could be a huge scarf that she is wearing and she has sewn it into place. I'm very petite, I'm expecting to have to wrap whatever I buy so that it doesn't come down to my knees!
