Can I wear this dress to a wedding?

My DP's best man, weddings in June. It looks acceptable to me in the pic of it hung up but the picture of it on the girl looks quite light.

Don't want to look too bridesmaidy or wear something that looks a bit too close to white.

Struggling to find anything I like😩

I've just had a second look. The picture of it on the person looks practically bridal. Agh.

Nope

Sally872 · 16/12/2021 23:36

Too light, I think this would actually make a lovely wedding dress if full length or for a small ceremony. I wouldn't risk it.

MichelleScarn · 16/12/2021 23:37

It's lovely! And with colourful shoes and accessories not at all overly bridal!

MaryStuart · 16/12/2021 23:37

No

MaryStuart · 16/12/2021 23:38

Sorry - to elaborate, for exactly the reasons you said ‘it looks practically bridal’

TheSmallAssassin · 16/12/2021 23:38

Yeah, I think it is too bridey in the first picture - June is months away though, so plenty of time to find something else you like!

GroggyLegs · 16/12/2021 23:38

It's a bit borderline bridesmaid, but if you'd worn it to my wedding I wouldn't have given it a second thought. The length makes it less bridesmaid-ish.

It looks lovely on the pic.

Hairyfriend · 16/12/2021 23:39

Sorry, lovely dress but could easily pass as a BM or even the bridal gown! The only way I could think to wear it, would be (just ideas on the top of my head:

  • add a coloured belt
  • add a different coloured bolero jacket
  • and bright accessories like shoes, bag, hat/fascinator (if they are still worn?)
DrWhoNowww · 16/12/2021 23:39

I think it looks quite bridesmaid like sorry.

I also think if it bothers you enough to ask on here then it will be in the back of your mind all day about whether it’s appropriate so you won’t enjoy the wedding.

I’d find something else - you have time!

stmw123 · 16/12/2021 23:40

1 no is enough for me!

Thanks all.

If anyone has any suggestions/links I'd be delighted. I feel like I've looked everywhere online. I'm somewhere between a 10 and 12 and only 5ft 2" so sometimes dresses look awkward/ too long on me.

What budget?

stmw123 · 17/12/2021 00:16

As cheap as possible😂 that dress is on Vinted for £20. I'm not afraid of 2nd hand as long as it's clean and in good condition.

I'd go up to about £80 but I'd have to really like it.

Thanks!

@Senorasurf yes they're up my street! I like the burgundy one but it's more than I can afford to spend.

I'm 25, medium blonde longish hair and pale skin if that helps to build up more of a picture. Conscious of my tummy because I've put weight on recently. Hoping to lose some of it by summer time though.

I feel like I keep hiding in big loose clothes because I don't feel comfortable like I used to so feel a bit daunted looking at nice summer dresses.

My friend wore white to my wedding, I didn't even notice or realised it wasn't the thing to do.

SparkleWhale · 17/12/2021 00:38

Nope!

rubyglitter · 17/12/2021 06:33

@stmw123 have a look at occasion dresses on Asos. Different styles and budgets. Just avoid anything that is white or looks like a bridesmaid’s dress.

oohmama · 17/12/2021 07:39

Go on DEPOP
Type in wedding guest size 10 and there are loads on there!!!!

CinnamonJellyBeans · 17/12/2021 07:40

You look lovely in it, but too bridal.

Gonnagetgoing · 17/12/2021 09:40

Too bridal or bridal party. People will just think you're trying to upstage the bride.

GoodnightGrandma · 17/12/2021 09:41

If you were to wear a colourful jacket and shoes/bag I’d say yes.

Gonnagetgoing · 17/12/2021 09:42

@HoneyFlowers - you may not have noticed or realised it wasn't the thing to do but I would have.

Sister of a close friend of mine wore a black and white floral dress to her wedding and I thought there was a bit too much white there in that dress too.

stmw123 · 17/12/2021 09:57

Thanks all
