Just bought Gok Wan's "How to Look Good Naked" bodyslimming underwear- but I need your opinions on something...

Ok, firstly here's a pic of what I'm talking about link

I bought one in black. Now I've just tried it on and ooh it's fabulous, streamlining and comfortable, but it covers up so many sins that it's got me wondering...

I've been putting off going swimming for years now because I'm a size 26 and I hate my wobbly bits, and in particular my thighs which have more dimples than an anne geddes calender shoot. Couldn't think of a way round it because most swimming costumes only cover the torso, so I just haven't been able to do my favourite form of excercise.

Sooo...opinions please, can I get away with using this plain black opaque bodysuit as a swimming costume, or would people know I was in my underwear?

I wouldn't use it as a swim suit. The underneath doesn't have poppers as far as I know and could gape open...

nailpolish · 19/12/2007 10:47

they probably would know it was underwear - question is, would be be bothered?

you know, i go swimming nearly every day and isee people the same size as you all the time. you wont be alone.

nailpolish · 19/12/2007 10:48

would YOU be bothered that should have read

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/12/2007 10:49

Oh my god, really?

LOL I just checked and yes indeed it does have a erm...concealed opening. Thankyou for telling me, I had no idea!

Wow, that could have been slightly embarassing.

Nailpolish, I suppose I'm just mega paranoid- our old swimming pool was one of those with a glass wall and an adjoining cafe so everyone eats their lunch there and watches the swimmers, plus the leisure centre is right next to the local college so all the teenage boys go in there for their lunch and to perv/jeer. I can go do a different leisure centre now but it's left me a bit scarred for life! lol

lol tyhat wud haver been embarrassing i dont think people really care what you look like at the pool..they may have a cafe there but most people are totaaly self absorbed and just dont think about it and they certainly arent going to comment

nailpolish · 19/12/2007 10:59

god yes why do they make the wall between the cafe and the pool GLASS?

its like that here too

someone was having a laugh

JodieG1 · 19/12/2007 11:01

Glad I could help Personally I would just go and not worry about anyone else. If you enjoy it just go and have fun. The wall to the road at my local one is glass too so you can see in from a busy road and open grass area in Cambridge.

choosyfloosy · 19/12/2007 11:02

well done you, but i think the chlorine would destroy it quite quickly, and i guess it was expensive?

what about just a tshirt and leggings to swim in? check with the pool, but i don't see why it wouldn't be ok

nailpolish · 19/12/2007 11:02

most pools have a ladies only swim session - maybe yours does - you might feel a bit more comfortable at that...?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/12/2007 11:21

I'll look into the ladies only sessions, but my big motivator is to be able to take my baby in there, so it's likely to just be a normal sesson in the shallow water of the baby pool

Don't think they'd allow tshirt and leggings, the tshirt could get caught on something underwater, or even other swimmers, and pose a safety hazard. I was even considering a wetsuit but I doubt they do them in my size and I bet they're mega expensive.

I probably just need to bite the bullet and take a running jump from the changing rooms into the pool! (God, there'd be no water left!) lol

Go to the Muslim only ladies sessions and wear a swim burqua! Which I truly did see reported in the paper as being a big seller.

MrsBadger · 19/12/2007 18:58

tis true - the women-only sessions at my old pool in Hackney had both swim burqas and the Orthodox Jewish equivalent.
you might even ba able to take ds is he's under 2.

ProjectIcarus · 19/12/2007 19:20

I am sure I have seen a cossie linked on a thread on here which was a similar shape.

ProjectIcarus · 19/12/2007 19:30

aha

ProjectIcarus · 19/12/2007 19:49

Maybe not the right size

Speedo do a legsuit in your size. they look really nice.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/12/2007 20:32
