My first biker jacket: MN made me do it...

TressiliansStone · 15/12/2021 19:10

This is Mumsnet's fault. Don't remember how – some thread about a party frock or cheap leggings... You know how it goes.

Anyhoo, I have just tried on my first leather biker jacket, and it is DA BOMB.

But I have Questions...

How tightly is it supposed to fit? Will it stretch?

The Medium clutches my hips and rides up in the small of my back. No space for a chunky jumper underneath, although four thin layers fit just fine.

The Large accommodates a thick fleece with ease and allows a little swivel on my hips. However it drowns me at the shoulders, and the larger funnel neck looks odd zipped up. (My face is tiny and easily overwhelmed.)

My heart is with the Medium. But an extra pound of fat in the wrong place, and I'll never zip it up again.

What to dooooo?

It is only my hips it's snug on.

I love it more each time I try it on.Blush But I may be deluded.

I like the medium, does look good. But if it rides up the small of your back, will it only look good if you never move, or if you move will you spend all your time pulling it back down again to avoid it bunching... That would kill the love pretty quickly I think.

Chishnfips · 16/12/2021 17:25

Medium. Don't do it up. Wear big scarf if you're cold.

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 16/12/2021 21:21

Ok, having seen the pics I'm changing my advice to medium. That jacket is not boyfriendable and the large looks silly on the hips. Medium much better, though I'd probably keep looking.

oohmamama · 16/12/2021 21:31

Honestly? Neither look nice, it’s a poor fit and they don’t flatter your figure. They look cheap. Where is this one from and what’s your budget?

Dozer · 16/12/2021 21:33

Keep looking! Medium looks OK but there’re better options out there.

Dozer · 16/12/2021 21:33

Defo not the large

They are indeed cheap! And no big brand.

I shouldn't be buying one at all, so there's no budget for this.

However I love the simple collar, and the lack of zips and bits, and the look when unzipped or quarter-zipped. This is the first biker I've seen, in my idle browsing, that ticks those boxes for me – never mind at a price I can stretch to – so I grabbed them while I saw them.

Zipped up... as you say, neither flatters my figure. I'm an hourglass (38-29-38) and it doesn't really show.

If I throw both of these back, it will be years before I actually set out to buy a biker jacket – if ever.

That's not a biker jacket.
It doesn't suit you I'm sorry to be blunt but it's awful.
Get a proper black real leather biker they're so Versatile. You won't need a thick jumper but they're lovely and warm. Never do it up unless you're actually on a motorbike Grin

TressiliansStone · 16/12/2021 23:01

Thank you all so much – so helpful to hear opinions.

If I do keep one, it'll be the Medium.

But I may steel myself to having neither.

Confused

Honestly, if you are struggling to justify spending then don't spend it on either of these. Neither is good enough to do your lovely figure justice

Have you looked for second hand/vintage?

When it comes to biker jackets they can look sooo much better

Bobbybobbins · 16/12/2021 23:13

Of the two deffo medium but I am not keen on the style either

canyoutoleratethis · 16/12/2021 23:18

OP, I think you are rocking the medium and if you love it, then buy it. You look really good, and I’m also loving the hat! Grin

fruitpastille · 16/12/2021 23:42

How much money are we talking about? Definitely medium.

Amelion · 17/12/2021 10:44

I think you could get better - if it’s a bit of an investment for you I’d keep looking for something more flattering, nicer colour and more timeless. Sorry!

TressiliansStone · 17/12/2021 11:26

Don't apologise! I came here for honest opinions!

The photos really bring out the "bockwurst on cocktail sticks" look... Shock

Debbacat6 · 17/12/2021 17:29

Neither
They don't look the best cut in either.
And zipped up looks elderly and odd.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 17/12/2021 17:32

So glad to hear most of you don't zip yours. I got mine just before lockdown #1 and now I can't zip it!

AnnieSnap · 17/12/2021 18:07

If these were the only two biker jackets in the world, I’d go with the medium. Given that it not the case though, I agree with others about trying a few more on. I wouldn’t go with too large on the shoulders though. Biker jackets are for feeling the business in. Mine wouldn’t fit well with a thick jumper under it. They are not for that!

Mirw · 18/12/2021 01:51

Do you have a bike or is this another version of cultural appropriation?

WhatIsThisPlease · 18/12/2021 02:12

Medium. But that's not a biker jacket.

ZealAndArdour · 18/12/2021 02:43

Get the medium, I never zip mine and I like to be able to slip it on over a little cami and some jeans for a night out without looking like I’m wearing my dads coat. I’ve never, ever felt compelled to wear a fleece under it, lol.

ZealAndArdour · 18/12/2021 02:46

That’s not a biker jacket in the photos 🤪

I’d keep looking OP, that one is about 48 seasons out of date and isn’t doing a great deal for you.

Bluesheep8 · 18/12/2021 08:50

It's not a biker jacket

Bunce1 · 18/12/2021 08:57

What’s your budget?

It’s gonna be sale time soon and look on places like bunted and
