I can never ever find jeans to fit me properly, without gaping at the back - please help!

Anyone got any good ideas? I'm an average 12, but I have large-ish thighs and bum, quite a tummy, but then a small-ish waist. Everything I try gapes really badly at the back, and I can't even get most of them over my thighs. The ones with partial elasticated waists tend to look really frumpy on me.
Is there such thing as a made to measure jeans shop or service??? Or are there any other shops that do jeans for strange shaped women??!!

this won't help much but I have to wear a belt! Even on my Katherine Hamnetts and she's supposed to be good for the female form, or so I heard... I am a 12 for hips too

Will be checking in to see what tips you get!

Do you buy jeans with a bit of lycra in them? That can help . I like Dorothy Perkins jeans, and I think my shape sounds similar to you, but a size bigger!

edam · 17/12/2007 20:04

No idea but eager for any solutions - I'm bigger than you (16) but have a relatively tiny waist. If I go for a 14 it's skin tight on my thighs, but a 16 gapes at the waist and gives me very unattractive extra fabric around the groin...

Great to hear that I'm not alone - isn't it ridiculous that its so difficult. Will try DP, haven't been there for a while. And will see what other tips we get!!!

I am this shape too and often ladies' jeans will have a HUGE gap hanging off at the back while simultaneously really digging into my front. It's weird. The best solution i have found is to wear men's 501s and get them taken up (I have short legs, sadly).

I am a size 12 and v curvy I would never wear jeans that go up to my waist as I would have the same problem. I buy my jeans from Oasis or Warehouse sometimes Dorothy Perkins but they sit under the waist..(not really low).

www.artigiano.co.uk

Had exactly the same problem - but the jeans I get from artigiano fit perfectly and are good quality.

Except their website is not working for some reason.

somersetmum · 17/12/2007 20:27

Have you tried a size 10 stretch fit jean? I also have/had this problem, but I've recently discovered that I can fit into most size 10 jeans, esp the stretchy ones. I think they must have adjusted the sizes

I have searched high and low for jeans that fit as mine always gape at the back. Recently I tried on a pair of levi flares and I love them muchly. More expensive than many but cheaper than some and if dp's levis are anything to go by last for years.

ja9ladiesdancing · 17/12/2007 20:44

i have this very problem.

the jeans i have that fit my shape the best are the long and lean ones from gap. have you tried them?. i can even wear mine without a belt.. no gaping at all.

I woudl get a pair which fit well overall and have them taken in at the back of the waist, which is not too pricey to do (have had it done myself).
