Have found a great great coat at each of them but not sure whether to wait until the sales. Does anyone know how much they usually have off and when do they start? Anywhere else that you'd recommend for nice winter coats?

Try Brand Alley, they have loads of coats by brands like Hobbs and Whistles, all at 30-50% off the usual price. They're probably from last season but a classic style never goes out of date. Check eBay too as you can often find BNWT coats by these brands for a fraction of the price.

Whistles prices are insane for the quality even in the sales IMO! The best coats I’ve found have been on eBay (preloved Hobbs etc)

True @Peppercorn9. I even got a BNWT 100% wool Hobbs coat on eBay last year for £70 and the price tag said £299. Then last week the Duchess of Cambridge turned up at an event wearing the same coat (but in a different colour) and suddenly they were on eBay for £700!

Whistles is an odd one - most of their stuff is polyester but it's silly prices for what it is.

I'd always suggest waiting for the sales to buy a coat, and for the further round of reductions if you can wait that long. I'm ancient and have had many bargains over the years this way. My current best coat is a Toast one which I got for about 1/3 of the original cost.

I've just bought the Whistles Lola coat (£249 in John Lewis) for £140 on eBay, BNWT. Might be worth a look?
