Somewhere other than Biden for girls party dress

Niece is 5 and has asked me for a sparkly party dress for Christmas. I got her the one in the photo for her present last year and she still absolutely loves it but it’s now too small. She wants something similarish with sparkles and colourful, although if I went full on rainbow her dm is unlikely to let her wear it (whole other story).

I can’t find anything nice on the Boden website. Does anyone know anywhere else that sell nice party dresses for young girls that don’t look too much like bridesmaid’s dresses but equally don’t look like an everyday dress either?

Next or M&S

AnnaSW1 · 26/11/2021 23:27

There's a very similar one in M&S I saw today

I usually go to monsoon for what you've described though

Try Monsoon, Chi Chi, or John Lewis.

None of the Boden ones took my fancy this year either.

Angels Face do the most beautiful girls party wear 😊

T K Max usually has a good range. Hit and miss what is there though.

A friend's daughter used to live in Monsoon sparkly dresses. They got them from Ebay in huge numbers so cheaply, and the little girl twirled her way through life.

@WillThisUsernameDo you sound like a lovely Aunt. (Although with autocorrect maybe you're also a lively Aunt Grin)

There’s just nothing that looks particularly nice at Monsoon this year. SIL will only let her wear things if she doesn’t deam them chavvy or too princessy, even if niece loves them. She’s got a couple of Disney Princess dresses at my mum’s house which she adores but isn’t allowed to wear when she’s with her mum. Monsoon seemed to fit in the niche that she found acceptable but they’re all a bit ‘meh’ this year.

I absolutely love buying niece dresses. I love shopping and pretty things so have obviously been given two sporty boys as children. SIL is very progressive, never wears make up or anything and always said she’d dress her child in gender neutral, practical clothing for as long as possible. So, obviously she’s been given a princess and unicorn obsessed daughter Grin

If your SIL was REALLY progressive she'd see the value in letting her daughter express herself as she would like to through clothes.

I bet she'd let her son wear a pink sparkly unicorn dress if he wanted....

This is so sad.

WillThisUsernameDo · 27/11/2021 14:34

She definitely would nanbread. My eldest went through a phase of wearing Disney Princess dresses (which are in the stash now kept at my mum’s house) and she absolutely loved it, always posting photos of him saying how proud she was of him “living his best life”. Her own daughter isn’t allowed to wear them though, or go to ballet classes which she’s begged to do Sad. She had me reading bedtime stories to her when she was 2 about inspiring women - I was trying to reword it as it was about a woman who had saved some children from Auschwitz and I didn’t want her having nightmares. I got snapped at to not dumb it down just because she’s a girl. Honestly, she’s very well meaning but totally bonkers. That’s a whole other thread though.

I’ve found this on the M&S website which is lovely. I don’t know if it’s too winters for her to wear to weddings though.
