40 yrs old and I've never found a hairstyle I like, can you help?

so I gave up a few yrs ago and have let DH cut it (probably awful). I'm trying to get up nerve to go into a salon, but what should I ask for, any suggestions, I know I'm hopeless.

Situation is:

  • Oval-faced, I'm relatively slender.
  • Hair only reaches half-way down my neck (has taken it about 18 months to grow this long)
  • Hair is naturally straight, lots of it but fine strands; hairdressers always comment on how LONG it takes to cut my hair
  • I need my Hair out of my eyes at all times
  • I won't use hairspray or do anything but brush it before I go out.
  • I think hair tucked behind ears looks dorky (it does on me, anyway)

When it was long I braided or tied it back. It grows very slowly now, though, and I rely on hairbands to keep it out of my face. The thickness means that it looks exactly like a mop in most short styles (bobs, etc.)
Any suggestions?

top tip - you need a good hairdresser, ask around to friends who have good hairstyles. If the hair is cut properly it shouldn't take and faffing about with but you will need it cut often.

This?

or This? - you don't have to have it near your eyes like the pic

maybe a slight fringe?

or a bob

Don't have any friends.... Okay, DO have a few friends, but they all have luxurious long or massively wavy-curly hair, or they have stringy hair they struggle to find a decent cut for, too.
Not sure if the styles you suggested will still look like a mop on me, maybe not.
What would a "good" haircutter charge?
Ta.

depends where you go but for a cut and blow dry between £30-40

I have a fab hair dresser she comes to my home & is really inexpensive. You need personal recommedations.

We need photos to help.

I have loads & loads of hair and I have to have a fringe otherwise I'd have to wear it tied back so I could see.
