I want to go into Richmond like I used to and mooch round Jigsaw, and Hobbs, and East, and Monsoon, and DIckins & JOnes, and M&S, and and and

none of you can help me
I am homesick for UK clothes

I have managed to buy pretty much nothing since I moved to NZ and I just don't understand the shops. I go out fully intending to come back with some nice things and get home empty handed

Noone can reply to this really can they? I am just ranting into the ether. you don't know how lucky you are

grumble, grumble

Oh Mrs JC don't say that!
We are accepted to move to NZ (Wellington, hopefully) just can't sell our house (bloomin Credit crunch!), but we have until May 2009.
Are NZ shops really bad then?

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 15/12/2007 10:46

no they're not really, actually the shopping is pretty good (and I'm in Christchurch, Wellington has more shops and my sister in Wellie is buying fab stuff - but then she's half my size). Much, much better than it used to be, fab homewares as well.
I just don't get them, I need my old trusted favourites. I see other women looking fabulous all the time (there seems to be a definite UK/Oz 'style' which should be quite 'me', I just don't seem to be able to dress myself!)

congrats on being accepted and good luck for the move

NZ/Oz style, not UK/Oz

it's WAY past my bedtime

Thanks

Luckily I hardly ever go shopping so shouldn't miss the UK shops tooo much!

Myrrhcy · 15/12/2007 10:50

What sort of style do you mean?

I can ask dh's female relatives where they buy their stuff (but they are mostly in Auckland)

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 15/12/2007 10:59

oh thank you Myrrhcy but TBH I think it's just me

in the UK I'd know exactly where to go for a certain type of outfit without even thinking about it, I know all the shops, how they fit, all that kind of malarkey

here I don't know all that, and my shopping trips (which are also now unfortunatley accompanied by one or both children) end in frustration. I've worked out a couple of the shops, but I can't actually afford most of the stuff I find that I do like

I think I probably need to make an effort to lose some weight and rediscover some of my old wardrobe. And save up so that when we do manage a visit back to the UK I can hit the shops in a frenzy

Oh I completely understand what you mean.

I'm told that buying shoes in NZ is a bit of a nightmare - expensive and not particualry good quality.

paddingtonbear1 · 15/12/2007 11:52

my aunt lives in oz and she says there's not so much choice there either, especially for her age and size (she's not that old or that large, about a 14-16). So when she comes back over here she stocks up!

JackieNoel · 15/12/2007 11:53

MrsJC - if you'd like to order stuff to be delivered here, I'd be happy to send it on to you. The only problem would be that if you had to return it, it would be really difficult.

francagoestohollywood · 15/12/2007 12:01

they must be pretty bed then, because honestly the shopping scene in Exeter is rather depressing (no jigsaw for once)

PrincessSnowLife · 15/12/2007 12:10

Oh me too! Mainly just for browsing.

I don't buy clothes here unless I want to look like a size 6 eastern european hooker .

francagoestohollywood · 15/12/2007 12:47

where are you princess?

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 15/12/2007 19:32

thank you JAckie. maybe one day. Really I just want to mooch around the shops. Actually, really I want to mooch around Richmond, having a homesick moment as Christmas approaches.
