Taking photos to the hairdresser?

I want to completely change my hair, and have got some photos to show the (new) hairdresser. I feel a bit awkward because obviously the photos are of beautiful young things and I am old and fat with bad skin. Will the hairdresser think I’m ridiculous? Has anyone done this and did they end up looking anything like the photos?

My hairdresser is happy to give me what I want and show him photos of....
........if he thinks it would suit me. 😁

I always take photos of Davina! We might be similar ages but I don't look like her. We do share the same straight shoulder length hair though, so her styles work for my hair.

I do this. I send them in advance so hairdresser can match the colours. I'm sure she appreciates knowing clearly what the goal is as blonde balayage is too broad a church.

I have a Pinterest board for hair. I always show my latest ideas to my hairdresser when I go and he explains which will and won’t work with my hair. I can’t describe what I want and this way he knows what I’m aiming for. I’m ancient and the majority of the styles are shown on young, gorgeous women but hair is hair and I’m past caring.

I do this all the time. I've used pics of Beyoncé, JLo, random pics of social media. The last time I went, I used a pic of JLo. It's the easiest way to tell your hairdressser what kind of look you want, much better than saying that you want a bit off here and not too much of the ends etc - which never gets you what you want

I show photos, usually on my IPad from Pinterest, to my hair dresser. We both find it help. You can describe an idea and agree it, but, in the absence of a visual, your perceptions of it may be different.

I always have some pics on my phone to show them. Better than trying to describe what you want and hoping they understand what you mean.

I just changed my hair from longer to short…. I used pictures off my Hair Pinterest. I’ve got pictures of Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton and Michelle Williams on there. Hairdressers speak a different language so I’d rather show a picture. ( it’s a gamble going to a new hairdresser for a dramatic cut though )

I've always done this, with varying degrees of success.

It's useful as long as you're being realistic about your hair type.

A warning sign is when they barely glance at it and just go "Yep, yep, I'll do that..."

Have always done this with varying results.

Finally have a hairdresser who gives me exactly what I show her in the pic, or explains why it won’t work or she can’t do it.

If it’s colour, often I find that hairdressers don’t have the skill to do what you want, and aren’t confident enough to say. I had 3 colour consultations with a lady who wasn’t familiar with crazy colour ombre on level 2 hair and she wouldn’t admit it, just kept saying we can do this or that and I knew it wouldn’t work. Would have saved us both time if she’d just looked at the picture and said no I can’t do that.

My hairdresser now is great though, and honest.
