Work Christmas party outfit! Please help - so many restrictions on what I can cope wearing!

Help needed please! I have my work Christmas party in a few weeks. I only joined the company 6 months ago and have worked from home so I haven't actually met any of these people in person.

So the dilemma! What to wear?

I am in a wheelchair after nerve damage so I have some pretty serious restrictions.

  1. Need to be able to remove bottoms quickly as I can only stand for a very short time and only have one hand free as I need to hold the rail.
  1. Jumpsuits are out for the same reason (which is a shame as I've seen some lovely ones).
  1. No buttons or zips anywhere. I have further nerve damage in my hands and fingers so fine motor skills are knackered.
  1. Needs to wow and also be flattering. I want to make a good impression!
  1. Nothing too long dress-wise as it can get caught in the wheels.
  1. Nothing too short! Muscle wastage on my legs means they look ridiculous!
  1. Size 14

Any ideas?

What kind of neckline do you want? Cleavage? And what colours suit you?

blitzen · 16/11/2021 08:06

I'm thinking a velvet skater dress. I have one which is ancient, i think from lands end. Not sure of zips on this kind of look but this is what I am thinking for you

I don't have enough up too for a proper cleavage 😂 so nothing too booby and not too high as I hate anything touching my throat - other than that I'm easy!

Love that dress @blitzen it's beautiful! However my DSis has just joined the same company and will be with me at the party and the dress she has bought is pretty much exactly the same as that so we might look a bit twinny!

Sorry colours - I'm a redhead so my favourite is green, anything red/orange tones don't suit me, can't go wrong with black and gold, blue quite suits me too.

Also I'm relatively new to this whole "disabled thing" so haven't been to a party since it all happened! Which is why I haven't got a clue what to wear 😬

How about this? (Also available to buy for 75 quid at John Lewis, and in an electric petrol blue). Looks to be pull on.

How about some black wide leg velvet (velour) trousers with an elastic waist and a sequin top in a bright colour. The trousers will have the appearance of a long skirt whilst you are seated and your legs will be covered. Loads of tops around at the moment with different necklines and colours. I have a pair of trousers that I have had many years that come out year after year with different tops or jackets and camisoles and every time I get compliments. Trousers were about £15 from M&S that's how old they are and they wash really well and no ironing needed!!

SpookyScarySkeletons · 16/11/2021 08:45

Oh wow they are both gorgeous @tpmumtobe!

I'm going to see if I can find the trousers too @bouncydog before I make a decision.

I'm also going to need some sort of wrap or pashmina as it's outdoors in a teepee so no idea how warm or fecking freezing cold it will be!

@SpookyScarySkeletons these elasticated velvet trousers are pricey but will last for years. Gorgeous . Matching top is here those are both Ghost/M&S. these are a less expensive M&S version, also fab

@SpookyScarySkeletons Monsoon have some nice velvet trousers: www.monsoon.co.uk/willow-wide-leg-velvet-trouser-black-24035201.html

And Sosandar have loads of sequined stuff at the mo':
This bronze top might work - www.sosandar.com/bronze-sequin-tie-front-tshirt

Or you could get a plain cami and go with a sparkly jacket to keep warmer: www.sosandar.com/rose-gold-sequin-jacket

Maybe with their leggings? This company The Able Label might be useful to know - everything is easy to put on with no difficult fastenings. Quality is good, and the clothes are stylish - a relative has been very happy with their clothes.
Hope you have a great time.
