Is this suitable for a wedding?

Please tell me if this dress is ok for a wedding? I was thinking of wearing it with black strappy high heeled sandals (but open to suggestions).

I'm a lot shorter than this model (5'5"), so it looks less leggy but is still above the knee. Is it too short? The ceremony isn't in a church if that makes a difference.

Would be grateful for opinions and any tips on how to style. Thanks!

I have a wedding coming up and I’m challenging myself to do it all from either my wardrobe or to buy preloved. Otherwise you buy something new for one day and barely wear it again. ( I think either dress is fine incidentally) I’m wearing a navy velvet jumpsuit and either a vintage green silk jacket or a navy velvet jacket ( both preloved). Could you borrow a jacket, shoes or bag etc? Lots of us have “fancy” stuff sitting around barely used.

Agree, outfits say night out not wedding. First one might work of you are under 18

belimoo · 16/11/2021 16:54

@Divebar2021 It's crazy isn't it, so many nice things which just don't get worn, especially at the moment. That's why I'm reluctant to buy a new dress/outfit for this, glad you think the dresses are ok. Your outfit sounds great!

I think the first dress is lovely and appropriate. Just wear skin colour tights and a coat.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 16/11/2021 16:55

i don't like the first dress - sorry. Much prefer the second one

tolerable · 16/11/2021 17:23

silk fred has some cool fauxfur

millievanillaice · 16/11/2021 17:41

I like it. I think it would look good with tights and ankle boots

SageRosemary · 16/11/2021 17:46

@WickedWitchOfTheTrent

Yes it's fine, it's a bit short in the model but she looks about 6'
I disagree, I think she must be closer to 7' !!

But the photo looks photoshopped

Bellsandwhistle · 16/11/2021 18:03

First dress is fab paired with tights and ankle boots which will be more modern than strapless sandals. You’ll look fab!

EssexLioness · 16/11/2021 18:08

I don’t like the first dress but love the second one.

Thank you!

Seems there's a mixed reaction to the dress but I like it so it was more a question of whether it's appropriate for a wedding rather than whether it's horrible altogether!

I'll try it on with tights and ankle boots when my new faux fur jacket arrives!

I think the first dress is nicer and def appropriate for a wedding, I would wear with heels I don't imagine you'll be outside much!

Debbacat6 · 16/11/2021 19:30

No.
It's an evening going out dress and will be too cold
The only way to make it look OK would be a long black cashmere cardi, unbuttoned..opaque brown tights and over the knee black boots and a cream leather envelope bag

THEDEACON · 17/11/2021 02:13

No

Halli2020 · 17/11/2021 02:21

I would say some black tights and black boots would look nice with it

fallfallfall · 17/11/2021 03:22

oh heavens that first dress is horrid, reminds me of something i'd find in the garage.
that would seriously ruin a group photo.
the second one is lovely.

Dragonfire282 · 17/11/2021 07:32

fallfallfall how rude are you? Absolutely no need! You can say you don't like it without being offensive.

Amberflames · 17/11/2021 07:38

Unless there’s a lot of moving between venues I’m not sure why you need to worry about dressing warm for a winter wedding. Unless they’re doing a lot outdoors (why would they?!) it will be warm in the venue. Just wear a coat to travel there.

opinionminion · 18/11/2021 22:19

I love the second dress - it's chic !

opinionminion · 18/11/2021 22:20

The first is lovely too but more summery - casual Smile

Macblondie · 18/11/2021 23:03

Really love the first dress. I don’t think it’s summery at all, as it has long sleeves. I would wear it with opaque black tights and ankle boots. You’ll look fab! Enjoy the wedding!

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/11/2021 23:05

I think you will be bloody freezing in the first one, and they are both a bit evening-y. Got anything knee length with sleeves? Can you borrow something?

belimoo · 19/11/2021 08:12

Thank you to (almost) everyone for the kind and helpful replies!

The faux fur jacket has arrived and it's hideous, makes me look like a giant wookie!

So I think the first dress is unfortunately off the cards as I'm struggling to make it look smart enough with what I have.

I think I'm going to go with the second one with a pashmina wrapped around the top half and some court shoes. Far from on trend but it does look like I'm dressed for a wedding at least! Im also going to stick heat pads all over myself under the dress.
