Would I be daft to get DS’s hair cut at a posh salon?

DS, 8 has somewhat challenging hair that’s currently very long. It desperately needs some kind of restyle but previous attempts to take him to local barbers and hairdressers haven’t produced great results.

I get my hair cut sometimes at a naice central London salon. They do kids haircuts but they’re about £50!

Do you think it’d be a crazy waste of money or worth it to figure out a style that works for him?

Maybe. It depends how much money you have.

What makes you think they'll be able to do better though? In my experience price isn't reliably linked to skill level with hair salons. The cost of rent on the other hand...

Can afford it (but I’m kinda frugal so don’t like spending for the sake of it).

I’ve given up on barbers, so it’d be a local hairdresser otherwise. I’ve tended to find I get a better cut if I pay top whack in London vs the local high street, but maybe I’ve just been lucky?

My daughter has “challenging” hair as well. It’s very thick and unruly. She has had an adult head of hair since she was little so I’ve paid for an adult haircut at my salon since she was your daughter’s age. I find they spend more time and the results are better.

My DSs used to have their hair done at a salon" it was "only" £25 for kids though.

For a good result, I think it's worth it.

I’ve seen kids in Nicky Clarke in Birmingham

It's worth it if your trust the hairdresser - I took my DS to my expensive hairdressers once and had to step in because they were giving him
Some sort of trendy cut- they asked what I didn't like about what they were doing and I had to point he was an 8 yo child and not a wannabe teenage pop star. They also asked him (not me) while they were washing his hair if he wanted a £15 peppermint hair treatment, which apparently he did Grin.
I'd say it's worth it if you know he'll get a decent cut.
