bra advice please........had bra fitting and am rather confused!

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:01

I have today gone for a bra fitting. I have lost nearly a stone in weight (not intended, am stressed since car accident and can't eat as am stressed), and have gone from a size 10/12 down to a size 8 all over.

bra's are getting loose.......round back and in the cup.

and this is where the confusion lies......

I have alway apparently been (well, when not pregnant or feeding that is) a size 34 c.
that is now loose, so measured myself.

around my ribs I am 29"....and round my boobs I am 35". I think that makes me a 34B. went to be measured tho and the lady says 34C....fair enough, she is trained after all.

BUT....she comes back with some 34C (and B to see the difference) AND NONE OF THEM FIT.

I am bulging under my arms in the B cup (to which she said that toning mey help (what is it about the ladies....they want your service do they not??? flattery and tact go a looooooooooooooong way!!!!), yet 34C is too big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO WHAT DOES THAT MAKE ME????? ABNORMAL! (that is what the lady implied anyway....."ooh, well you are a bit of a different shape aren't you...hmm....tis going to be a wee bit difficult to find the 'right' bra for you")

have come away bra-less and sorry for myself.

OOooooh....and this is important too as DH wants to buy me pretty underwear for xmas and he doesn't want to buy the wrong thing.....ow fab is he

all help thanked by Mr Psycho

Beales in Winchester are quite good - the lady there has a passion for bras - not too hard form Bournemouth either...

CloudAtlas · 12/12/2007 16:45

I bet you bet you bet you that you are 30 C or D, definitely go to Rigby and Peller and get measured. You don't have to buy anything. Just look like you're going to. If you're off to Brent Cross, you need to make an ap't

CloudAtlas · 12/12/2007 16:46

forgot to say that M&S are CRAP at fitting bras! Never had an accurate fitting. Selfridges are good though, but rigby and peller deffo best

bootsmonkey · 12/12/2007 16:46

Agree in going down back size and up cup size. If you are falling out of a B it is too small - should be minimal spillage and maximum containement IMO - but I am a 36FF, so need all the help I can get! Also agree that M&S are terrible at fitting. The only make I know will fit me are Freya, so I rely on them...

POOKAingwenceslaslookedout · 12/12/2007 16:47

I have never had any luck with M&S fittings. Was measured there once as a 38a/b. Am currently wearing a 32D Freya bra that was fitted in an indie lingerie shop in Bluewater. And it's soooo comfortable.

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2007 16:48

M&S tell me I am a 34B or something silly

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2007 16:48

(In an R&P 32F now , I think I am down to about a 30E though)

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:49

flame.......PMSL!!!!

maybe You and me should do a R&P trip and beg mr psycho for some money.

and winchester is an easy jaunt up the M27.

as for a 30 measurement..........really????

32 is on the smallest setting and feels loose. I have a narrow back remember.

Will MrPsycho buy me bras too? I am getting birthday money to go, but that is a bonding family trip again I'm afraid.

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:53

grrrr and tut at family bonding....unless you wanna adopt me...flutter eyelashes.

so flame, what are you around your back now then???

bootsmonkey · 12/12/2007 16:56

Tisn't a HUGE department in Beales, but they have a selection including Fantasie, Freya, Triumph and others...

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 17:02

ok....so we agree that M&S is not good.....and that beales winchester or john lewis are both possible before xmas, so know I need to know how much I need to suck up price wise????

how much are we talking here????

or, do I wait till after xmas and hope that there will be a sale in R&P and go up with early b/day money????

or.....just hope that I regain weight and re-fit into current bra's and in the meantime look hidious???? (and that last one isn't really an option so no go telling me it is....)

bootsmonkey · 12/12/2007 17:37

Freya/Fantasie are £24-30 per bra depending on style. Matching briefs/thongs (if you're that kind of a gal) are £12-18 each. Worth it though!

bootsmonkey · 12/12/2007 17:38

Makes the £8-16 of M&S much more appealling, but if they don't fit..... Good luck - I detest bra shopping! I have been known to disappear into a cubicle with 20 bras and come out weeping!

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2007 17:39

Just measured - 30 under norks 37 around em.. which by a calculator I just used makes me a 34C No way would that fit - it would spin and be faaaaaaaaaar too small on the cup.

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 17:42

well then if you are 30" and I am 29" where does that leave me.......half bloody sizes and an odd shape and in need of toning and losing weight [fagnry]

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

sorry.....mr psycho here and getting fecked off

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2007 17:48

gaining weight for you

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2007 17:49

Missed that she did tell you to tone! Do you think that is in the M&S training manual?

ProjectIcarus · 12/12/2007 17:53

M&S said I was a 38c.

Nothing fitted. They implied various things about my breasts .

I now wear a 34e/f and It fits perfectly.

And I never buy bras from m&S.

ProjectIcarus · 12/12/2007 17:53

I would guess at a 30C too.

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 18:02

oooooh..................30C.....an intriguing thought. will defintely have to avoid M&S then!

and yes Flame......did say that maybe a little toning would help[sob]

psycho- debenhams in bournemouth stock a good range of bras.
DOn't know about their fitting expertise as I usually do it myself but have a look at the fitting guide here.
Bravissimo would be a waste of time for you as they don't stock below a d cup.

I agree you're probably about a 30c.

Also john lewis in southampton is good for fitting advice and they do stock 30 back size as my tennage dd was fitted there .

My advice would be to try L in west quay first before trailing up to london at this time of year.Phone to make an appointment as they get really busy,
