What to wear on my with dresses through the winter

I have loved the dress and white trainers combo (I know it's got its haters) through the summer but now the weathers colder the dresses don't look right with bare legs and are too cold. I tried black trainers which looked heavy and still had the bare legs issues- should I be putting a stylish ankle boot? What would you recommend if so please? I love a Chelsea boot but they can be a bit loose around the ankle so I think they look a bit wrong?

Marking my place. I was considering starting a thread about the autumn/winter version of the flowery dress, white trainer combo.

Last year was lockdown/tiers/ beer garden clothes, I think I’ve forgotten how to dress for normal things anymore.

I am wearing these boots with my Wolford tights and either an oversize teddy coat or long knee length quilted coat.

Similarly i am wearing black or coloured tights from Snag and these Saint & Sofia boots

QueenSue · 05/11/2021 15:02

Wool tights and biker boots.

Strangevipers · 05/11/2021 15:20

Ankle warmers to fill gaps

Biker boots

Flat just below the knee boots

colouringindoors · 05/11/2021 15:22

Tights, ankle boots (for me with extra socks), chunky cardigan at home...

Can anyone recommend tights with a bit of warmth (but not actual wool - too itchy - thanks

Redcrayons · 05/11/2021 15:22

Loving the chunky boots. Takes me back to me teen goth days.

Frankbutchersfangs · 05/11/2021 15:25

Definitely biker boots. Love this look

Chippymunks · 05/11/2021 15:26

I’ve switched white trainers to dresses with black leather high top converse boots and black or ginger suede ankle boots with a bit of a heel, all with tights and socis and tights with the Converse boots. I have Black and Tan warm jackets.

These! I bought a pair 7 years ago and asked for another pair for a christmas present. They are still going strong and I am going to get another pair.
They are expensive but they last, don't go bobbly and feel comfortable. I love them.

Chippymunks · 05/11/2021 15:27

That should say socks and tights.

TimeToSay · 05/11/2021 15:28

Black DMs for me.

With thermal leggings/tights and thick socks.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 05/11/2021 15:37

I'm wearing my platform DM's (burgundy coloured) just now with plain or patterned tights

SymbollocksInteractionism · 05/11/2021 15:48

I've also worn my mustard Nike's with fishnets (I do love fishnets though! 😄)

Einszwei · 05/11/2021 15:51

Primark fleece lined black tights and black lace up ankle boots with chunky socks.

Gonnagetgoing · 05/11/2021 16:08

So far I've worn opaque tights with black trainers. Fishnets are nice but the nude pair I wore got holes in them so not bothering with those again.

Apart from one pair of boots which are a bit too casual for wearing out the others are knee or calf high and the other ankle ones I have I need to get reheeled.

I'm not keen on biker, chelsea etc boots so don't want to buy them just so I'm on trend.

Oneforthemoneytwo · 05/11/2021 16:13

Primark fleece lined tights. They’re a winter game changer

nordica · 05/11/2021 16:16

80-120 denier tights and ankle boots for me. I have some chelsea boots and also a couple of pairs of lace up boots.

Are they different to the Primark fleece lined leggings? Which I liked a bit but sort of found too warm.
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2021 17:32

Another fan of fishnets, with either trainers or boots. They somehow often work better than an opaque, although I can't quite explain why, and it depends on the dress too.

I'm wearing either lace up ankle boots, Converse, or black trainers, mostly.

Oneforthemoneytwo · 05/11/2021 18:07

@Gonnagetgoing totally different. They’re not as thick

MrsArrison · 05/11/2021 19:15

I've swapped chunky white trainers for the M&S Grenson knock off boots, usually with black or grey opaque tights. Very comfy and practical and they look good (to me, at least!) with dresses of all lengths. Mid-calf length boucle coat for every day wear on top, or a leather biker jacket for for a slightly smarter / evening look. It's nothing unique, but all really good for me at 18 weeks pregnant when I just can't get on with maternity jeans or trousers!

ivfbabymomma1 · 06/11/2021 07:41

Definitely doc martens for me & im a dress & white trainers in the summer kinda girl

slipperyeel · 06/11/2021 08:06

Black tights with black leather trainers or Chelsea boots

Gonnagetgoing · 06/11/2021 12:49

@Oneforthemoneytwo - thank you! The leggings were very thick so will get the tights.
