Please can I have your opinions on this dress - on me?

I posted before about JJ's House dresses as I'm looking for something for my niece's wedding and the replies were very positive. I love this one, though I wouldn't go for it in red. I'm size 10, but...I'm 5'1". I have a feeling you need to be tall and willowy to carry off that skirt, and I would just look stumpy!

As it's JJ's House, I can't order it and send it back if it doesn't suit, so please can I have some thoughts?

In the info it says the model is in a size 8 and is 5ft7 tall. I think it might be best to be over 5ft 5 for a dress like this.

Bellyups · 30/10/2021 16:04

It’s lovely, however I’m not sure on someone who is 5ft1

ChipsNCurry · 30/10/2021 16:05

I'm afraid I don't like the hemline on the dress and I think you'd risk the back of the dress being way too long if you're 5'1 given how tall the model is?

Oftenithinkaboutit · 30/10/2021 16:06

The reviews include loads of photos of people wearing…

LakeShoreD · 30/10/2021 16:10

It’s nice but the model is 5ft7 and it’s pretty much full length at the back on her. Given you’re 5ft1 I’d only buy it if you have budget for alterations because at a minimum you’ll definitely need to take it up.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/10/2021 16:13

The skirt would be trailing along the ground on 5' 1" you. It would look like you were playing dress up. Not sure how easy it is to alter this kind of irregular length pleated skirt but maybe worth a try.

MilduraS · 30/10/2021 16:13

You can order it in a custom size. I've done that with other dresses from China and it's worked out perfectly (and much cheaper than getting it altered here). I can't remember the name of the website I used but it wasn't jjshouse.

Theuniverseandeverything · 30/10/2021 16:18

It would be too long on you with that long hemline at the back and it would be difficult to alter.

Feedingthebirds1 · 30/10/2021 16:30

You can have it custom made and give your measurements, so it wouldn't be as long as the one in the picture it would be shorter to fit 5"1'. But I'm still not sure. Even at the right length, the skirt is very full.

I think you’d be fine. You’re verging on the petite, the so dress would be sized down for you.

And if you’re just buying the standard size, then it can be returned.

I am surprised how much i like it! But I think i would wear it with super high heeled mid length patent boots. Go quietly rock chick rather than formal..think Stevie Nicks (very petite)
I dont think its for tall willowy people at all!

notthemum · 30/10/2021 17:13

I used to have a dress that was very similar in style to that one. It was gorgeous (and red) but it was made specially for me. I am 5ft. and 3/4 inch. Would have been about a size 12 at the time and probably around 30years old. Looked fantastic.

I like your thinking, but I fear the groom's mother wouldn't share the same opinion! But it would work as a way of wearing it more than once.

notthemum I think - give or take quarter of an inch - that puts us about the same size. Sounds promising.
