Mum of two young kids…what to wear?

I’m on my second maternity leave with a three week old and a 2 1/2 year old. I’ve obviously got a bit of a postnatal body going on so hips in the tummy that I’d rather hide but I’m not feeling too bad about myself.

However I have completely forgotten what to wear. Most of my old clothes don’t suit my shape anymore or just aren’t practical for the spillages and mud involved with two small children. I just tend to live in jeans and a T-shirt but I feel so uninspired. I don’t know what else is practical! I’m 33 and a tall 14/16.

What do you guys wear and where do you shop?

I've got a baby and a toddler as well, and I feel like I've lived in black leggings/jeans and basic black H&M tops for the last three years. I'm now trying to make more of an effort with how I look. Not always easy as my clothing obviously need to be practical. Things I've bought recently that I'm enjoying wearing - Lucy and Yak corduroy dungarees, nice lace up flat boots from Dune, mum jeans instead of my usual skinny jeans (way more comfy, not sure why I didn't make the switch earlier!). Instead of always wearing jeans I've started wearing shortish skirts with thick tights and my new boots. I've also got a couple of new headbands from Oliver Bonas so even though I'm still just tying my hair up, at least the headband makes it look a little better hopefully! I definitely need more inspiration though so will be following your thread with interest Smile

@Groundedtraveller’ve been thinking about Lucy and Yak dungarees for something a bit different so will get some. Love the headband idea!

So much of my stuff is ancient so think I’ll replace my winter boots etc which should help.

Have your basics- jeans, t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts and then look around for lovely necklines in cardigans/ jumpers / coatigans. Funnel, cowel, asymmetric. Find a good easy to wash dressy scarf.
Get some earrings that are studs but you really like.
Funky trainers.

I have a toddler so am all about practical. I wear jeans and cool jumpers with trainers or docs. I add a bit of personality with hats or coats and scarves. Stuff that's practical but adds colour or texture too.

The sucky in leggings with slouchy jumpers could be good?

Anything that’s clean Smile

Are you breastfeeding? I’m a week behind you with the baby and also have a two year old, have barely left the house since the youngest was born and keep eyeing up lovely front opening dresses online. My trouble is I always think ‘I look like shit today, it’s not worth putting on a nice outfit’ so I end up back in the leggings and basic tops.
