Is it possible to wear a trouser suit for a glam night out without looking like I am going to the office?

HELP ME PLEASE

I am going to the Scottish MN night out on Saturday. I have been given a navy trouser suit which is ok, but I have no idea how to glitz it up or if indeed it is even a good idea to wear a trouser suit.

I have shoes/handbag in gold and also in a bronze-ish colour, so that would go with some of the metallic colours that I have spied in the shops this year.

What kind of top would go with a trouser suit to make it glitzy enough? The only things that I can find on google are these models that will catch their death of cold parading around with a trouser suit and nothing else on!!

A sparkle top of some kind

EniDeepMidwinter · 11/12/2007 13:29

sorry I would say NO to your thread title

flowerysantassack · 11/12/2007 13:29

Spangly camisole-type top I'd say. Something you'd be happy to wear without the jacket if you get hot.

EniDeepMidwinter · 11/12/2007 13:29

I'd rather wear jeans than a navy suit to a night out with a load of women

SSStollenzeit · 11/12/2007 13:30

When I see women in these suits at night they have no top underneath and a sparkly dangly necklace and sparkly or very high heels. Would work better with black than navy though.

Are you a whizz at doing something dramatic with your hair maybe?

flowerysantassack · 11/12/2007 13:31

Bronze

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 11/12/2007 13:34

OK, so far we have:

no to the trouser suit

spangly tops

and

nothing on underneath!!

I think I can safely rule out the nothing underneath option

SSStollenzeit · 11/12/2007 13:36

mind you I'm PRESUMING they have nothing on underneath, I haven't checked!

EniDeepMidwinter · 11/12/2007 13:37

jeans and a sparkly dress tunic thing over the top

better than a suit

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 11/12/2007 13:40

Ok, sorry should have said in the OP that I don't have a lot of cash, so can only buy one inexpensive item to team with the suit. Am thinking of perhaps just wearing the trousers and getting a spangly top that would match either of my shoes/bags.

Would a tunic look ridiculous with the suit trousers?

Sorry for being so clueless.......

And if it helps, I'm 5ft 2" and around 8,5 stones. Can shorties like me wear those tunics?

Personally I wouldn't wear a trouser suit.

But if you must - shoes along this line this line and nothing under the jacket perhaps a hint of a red push-up bra and a long-link sparkly necklace

CarmenerryChristmas · 11/12/2007 13:46

I would go with wearing the suit trousers or jeans, high heels and a sparkly fitted longsleeve top, the shops are stuffed with them and they are really cheap atm. Then judge if the jacket looks ok or not.
Tbh the only suits that look good on a night out are generally really expensive, well tailored ones iyswim.

Wear what you are comfy in and have fun.

Oh I knew I could get some good advice from you ladies!

Right, will leave the suit jacket at home and go out this pm looking for a top to go with the trousers.

I am so unsure when it comes to all this stuff. I have no idea about anything fashion related!! I often go into a shop, then just walk out again as I have no idea where to even start.

The deadline of Saturday is looming though, and I was given a voucher for my birthday last week, so I hope that having to spend it in one shop will stop me wandering aimlessly from shop to shop....
