Why are bras so uncomfortable

Hi. I recently measured my bra size properly. I'm a size 8 and until recently I thought I was a 34B. I used the boob or bust bra calculator and it said I was a 28E. I went to M&S and tried on several sizes, couldn't breathe in a 28E, but 30DD seemed better. The cups fit properly around my boobs now, and I feel better supported.
However, I find the bra feels tight around my ribs! It's on the loosest clasp and is not underwired. Do I just need to get used to it, after years of wearing a loose bra? Or are there better bra brands out there anyone would recommend? Comfort is my main priority- any recommendations gratefully received!

Bras don't need to be uncomfortable. Mine aren't - I am most definitely not one of the fling it off as soon as you get in the door brigade.
However.... as a fellow size 8 .... I don't believe boob or bust works for us. I'm a 29" underband but there's no way I can wear a 28 or 30 of any description. 32B is my best size usually.

I thought the long line bras would me more comfortable to wear, but the ' longline' just rolls up and sits under your boob, and that 's just as uncomfortable as wires.

Does anyone have a good tip on maternity/breast feeding/pumping bras?
Ever since the lockdowns and when I got pregnant, I can’t stand wearing a bra. I tried so many different ones, sports bras, wired, not wired, wasted so much money.. and all of them squeezed my chest/ribcage or put pressure somewhere so my back always starts hurting on the left hand side of my back, somewhere inside underneath my shoulder blade. It hurts so much I can’t stand or sit or sleep and I can’t take any painkillers.. I don’t wear anything at the moment but I think I will start getting leaky boobs soon (I am 33 weeks now) so I will have to find some solution 😞 can anyone help, please?

Wires dig in and are really uncomfortable

@moofolk

Why are bras so uncomfortable?

Because we live in a capitalist patriarchy that demands unrealistic standards of women, wants us to be uncomfortable and dissatisfied, and hates real women's bodies.

JGB1987 I was fitted for mat bras at John Lewis and then for feeding bras. Once ds was born I lurched from a dd cup to a G cup as soon as my milk came in. I had extension inserts for the hooks which were a god send. Also had sleeping bras from quite early pg as so tender. Best one's I had when things settled down were some cheapo zippy ones from mothercare. It's important to really look after and support your breasts when pg - it helps prevent too much sagging.

@moofolk as I've said before despite being fairly well endowed, I have never had an uncomfortable bra and I like wearing them. I like the lace and the prettiness, the support and the fact that good undergarments make outergarments look better and make me feel more confident. I do it for me because I like it.

Nor if the bra is the correct fit. I always wear underwired as they are more comfortable.

I get Peacocks cropped ones with adjustable straps. The only ones that work for me. I size down.
