I bought this in the John Lewis sale the best part of 18 months ago, and for some reason it just suits me really well, it gets compliments every time.

I think it is a combination of the colour palette, a non cutesy/ditsy pattern, a simple shape (no tiers or flouncing) etc.

I am not a fan of cutesy patterns, they just don't suit me. I don't mind dalmation kind of spots, more geometric/abstract etc. But most I see have tiers or whatnot but this dress is just perfect for me. Equally, I live a fairly casual life, so don't want anything too smart. This feels suitably casual, especially as it has pockets.

I'm a size 16/18 for reference. Has anyone seen anything suitable?

That's a beautiful green. I don't have anything useful to add except could you widen your search to include tops in that colour?
