Elegant but cool cocktail dress

I'm going to a 50th birthday party for which the dress code is cocktail dresses. It's in a swanky London bar and there will be lots of very cool media / ad land types there.

I don't own anything suitable at all, being a mum of teens and far more comfy in my gym kit and uggs.

So I'm looking for something good quality, special, funky, but not too young and not too mother-of-the-bride-ish. I'm 47 years old, 5'3 and size 10. Autumn / jewel colours.

Best bits are my stomach and legs. Hate my arms.

As I will prob be going several more 50ths in the not too distant future I'm happy to throw a bit of money at the problem and buy something I will wear again.

Thank you @Br1ll1ant. It's certainly elegant but I'm not sure it's funky enough; it's quite safe. Also the length would be tricky on me. I'm looking for something just above the knee or mid thigh (not sky high though).

I rather like this dress in black

Paired with some black boots and a messy up do r, long pointy earrings.

Why don't you think about hiring?

Black though.

Everything is too long at the moment!

DrWankincense · 19/10/2021 08:16

ASOS one is a bit long for your requirements but they have lots

Oh wow! Came here in my lunch hour thinking I might have to bump the thread!

Thank you all so much for so many wonderful ideas. The Revolve one I think is the winner - amazing colour and ticks all the boxes. It's stunning! It's in my shopping bag.

Love the idea of hiring something too; it hadn't occurred to me to do that. Thank you all again you wonderful people!

This dress has been haunting me for months on the MN ads.

Glad you found something OP I have gone for a jumpsuit instead or a dress as just don't fancy or cannot afford the the ones if seen there's a definite lack of cocktail type dresses compared to in the past.

Sorry to change the subject slightly, but I've not heard of Honey Codes before. I see that it's a browser extension. Is it safe, reliable etc? Thanks!

This is pretty but may be OTT www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284493854201?hash=item423d27b5f9:g:ANkAAOSwspZfIBsx

Yes. It's brilliant. Definitely recommend. I've saved so much money as a result.
