Are hairdressers like Drs? ie they’ve seen it all?

Will they judge or refuse to work on hair when the client has a scalp condition? Or are they used to it?

I need to find a new hairdresser, I’ve not been happy with mine for a while but I’ve been going for so many years because I feel comfortable with her.

I have a patch of psoriasis on my scalp, around the crown and it makes me feel really awkward about having my hair touched. Ive tried various treatments but it keeps flaring up, I have an auto immune condition so maybe it’s due to that.

Please reassure me that a new hairdresser isn’t going to recoil in disgust

They won't recoil in disgust but I would tell them.

I can imagine psoriasis is very common to a hairdresser. Tell them in advance so there are no surprises - you might find they have someone who specialises in working with you..
My best mate also has scalp psoriasis with significant loss of hair. She's found a fabulous hairdresser who cuts it beautifully whilst making it look fuller.

Not at all - the last hairdresser I had suffered from psoriasis in her scalp too so we had a good chat about it. I've never had an issue though and I've had it in my scalp for about 20 years.

About 10% of the population has psoriasis to some extent (source the bad skin clinic) so they would need to be very inexperienced not to have seen it at least once.

No judgement ! Us hairdressers look for scalp conditions whilst looking at hair while we do consultations it’s part of the job ! And we can advise if it’s needed ! I have a small patch in my scalp also auto immune x

Seen it all for sure! Just tell them so they can use the right products/be gentle or whatever
