Winter coat - hooded but not dog walking look

SheWoreYellow · 07/10/2021 17:12

I have a gap in my coat lineup.

I’d like a coat that is pretty warm and windproof, and has a hood. But I’d like it to look like ‘going into town’ not ‘going to walk to dog’.

Anyone seen anything? Kind of thinking up to £150.

I’ve looked, but all the warm winter coats mentioned tend to be on the dog walking side. I’d class the ones in your post as such I’d say?

I love my Parka London coat. It’s very warm - used it on winter city breaks in Tallinn and Helsinki - but think it looks good.

Following with interest as I would love to find a coat like this. I’ve got one from Debenhams last year, it’s longish and light colour so looks more as going out way but I’ve never seen wool coat warm enough for winter time, they all quite thin for my liking.

Been around a while now, but I have one of these from a few seasons ago. I have walked the dog in it, but it does many jobs

CaramelWaferAndTea · 07/10/2021 19:58

Protected species with lining?

LightOfAThousandStars · 07/10/2021 20:12

Yeah if you were thinking more casual fashion ones then Zara usually do good parkas that are windproof

SheWoreYellow · 08/10/2021 07:08

Hm. I think if I want windproof and with a hood then it’s going to look like a dog waking coat.

Maybe I need to investigate hats Grin

Cos and Arket both have hooded wool coats on their websites at the moment.

whiteonesugar · 08/10/2021 12:22

I just got this from Zara. It’s reversible, whilst I don’t think I would reverse it in this colour way the black version has a better colour inside and it’s smooth, not padded. Windproof and has a hood.

I'm always on the lookout for a smart coat with a hood but they basically don't exist, it don't know why. I did see something in Co's that may work for you.

HoneyDewMel · 09/10/2021 14:47

Whenever I see a friend wearing a coat I love the look of it tends to be a Didrikson coat

nordica · 09/10/2021 15:23

Protected Species has some good waterproof ones and looks like they have a winter version on a preorder too. For waterproof but not specifically warm I love the look of this one www.protected-species.com/product/waterproof-parka/

Did you choose a coat @SheWoreYellow? I had an email through today from Uniqlo about their new hybrid coat, I like the shorter of the two.
I’ve also been eyeing up their new jumpers - not that I need decent looking clothes during the week as I work with young children and end up covered in sand/mud/paint more often than not!

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/10/2021 19:02

What about this from Boden?

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/cambridge-textured-coat-conifer/sty-u0013-grn?cat=C1_S2_G360

I think if you want smart, go for wool/tailored. Parka styles will be ‘dog walking’.

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/10/2021 19:03

Actually OP, if you can forego the hood, you’ll have more choice.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 25/10/2021 07:18

How about something a little more vintage? I’ve been eyeing this coat up for a while and they have others that also have hoods:

Swearwolf · 25/10/2021 08:29

I'm struggling with exactly this, and I think I might need to end up with two different coats... budget allowing.

I have seen a couple of wrap puffer coats, could something like that work? It's a hooded puffer so nice and warm, but the wrap feature makes it more contemporary. I think I've seen some in Mango and M&S.

Swearwolf · 25/10/2021 08:30

Actually Monsoon have some nice ones! This kind of thing

JuneFromBethesda · 25/10/2021 08:36

I just bought this and I love it. It’s really cosy, definitely windproof but not a dog-walking coat (although I probably will wear it to walk my dog Grin)

www.frenchconnection.com/product/woman-collections-coats-and-jackets/70rab/iolani-puffer-coat.htm

I love the contrast of the bright lining against the black, and it’s really well designed so the hood looks good up or down. It’s a neat shape when zipped up (ie not shapeless or frumpy).

RacketeerRalph · 25/10/2021 12:26

I think waterproof + hood automatically puts you in dog walking territory. I don't think what you want exists!

themadBelgian · 25/10/2021 14:30

Would have been great - just what I was looking for! - but it's sold out in all sizes Confused

Ah was that in response to my post? I didn’t notice that it was out of stock, sorry. I bought mine from a local department store so you could try local stockists …?
