HELP ME CHANGE THE LAW ! -when beauty therapy leaves you scarred

I have been left with scars all over my neck after undergoing 'plasmage' (plasma therapy) The therapist refused to rectify the problem and I've been told I will need laser resurfacing and this might cost around £10k.
I took out a 'no win no fee' claim but I've just found out that I lost as the company that makes the plasmage therapy machine does not even recommend that a patch test is carried out first!
This is a legal requirement if you want to go to the hairdressers to have your hair dyed but not if you go to the beauty therapist where you can be burned and scarred! THE LAW NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AND A PATCH TEST NEEDS TO BE MANDATORY BEFORE A PROCEDURE THAT CAN CAUSE SCARRING/DISFIGUREMENT IS CARRIED OUT. I have written to my MP about this and I need to get as much support as possible so please help me make real change and help protect everyone from therapists who just don't care about our health or well being. My face book link is below if you could share it I think this might really help even to let people know how much the law is letting us down, and if anyone else can help with ideas to help make this happen please get in touch. www.facebook.com/onlinemotivationalhypnotherapy/posts/3044554552455306

So sorry this has happened to you. It's good that you're warning other people about what can happen. How long ago did you have the treatment (if you don't mind my asking)?

alie33 · 06/10/2021 22:28

Hi thanks for taking an interest I really appreciate it, and I had the treatment over 2 and half years ago, the therapist said that I needed to wait to see if the scars would fade, and the photo was taken about 3 months ago.
thanks
alison

Gosh, I’m so sorry this happened. I admire you for warning others and wanting to change things! Good luck!

XingMing · 07/10/2021 09:13

I imagine Linda Evangelista would lend her support... could you reach out to her on Instagram?

PeakyPaula · 07/10/2021 09:29

Nadine Baggott had something similar on her chest, it left her with scars that had to be relasered, maybe reach out to her? She's on insta

Honestly the industry does need regulating! As an ex beauty therapist I qualified in 1992 and then we had to do 2 years of intensive training and education. But over the years it has become so easy to get certificates.
It's ridiculous.... I wouldn't let these young girls who have done a week training any where near me with hot wax let alone a laser 😱

Evesgarden · 07/10/2021 10:14

I 100% agree. Its shocking that people can do certain treatments and not have no professional governing body behind them making sure they are doing things correctly.

In my business we are governed by the CQC, its non invasive, no needles or medications given and I have to jump through hoops to prove my business is safe. However anyone can go around injecting shit in to peoples faces and have no legal ramifications or monitoring

Tellmeee · 07/10/2021 10:15

That’s horrendous.

Tellmeee · 07/10/2021 10:16

What was the treatment meant to do?

TooMuchPaper · 07/10/2021 10:19

I took out a 'no win no fee' claim but I've just found out that I lost as the company that makes the plasmage therapy machine does not even recommend that a patch test is carried out first!

Just on this - do you have to pay costs for the other party?
And what happened you is awful. It's insane that this can happen and you have no recourse.

alie33 · 07/10/2021 20:43

The treatment was basically meant to tighten the skin by producing more collagen and no it didn't tighten the skin just left scars

There’s a long thread on this if it helps: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3561179-Has-anyone-been-left-with-scarring-after-plasma-pen-fibroblast

NumberNineTwo · 07/10/2021 20:46

YABU for getting treatment like this from someone who’s not a qualified medical professional. Yes it needs to be regulated, but also people should have more sense.

alie33 · 07/10/2021 20:46

I won't have to pay costs as it was a no win no fee solicitor, the therapist initially said she would pay for me to have laser resurfacing but then changed her mind, I think she realised that the way the law stands she could walk away without blame!

MilesOfSand · 07/10/2021 20:47

Sorry, just saw you’re on it!

alie33 · 07/10/2021 20:48

The woman who did the treatment is a registered nurse and has post graduate degree in medical aesthetics, so she wasn't unqualified just unscrupulous in my eyes!

NumberNineTwo · 07/10/2021 20:54

So not a doctor then.

alie33 · 07/10/2021 20:56

Yes thanks I had thought about contacting her, I just think we need to stick together, I was so ashamed of what I had done and I work as a nurse and have to wear a v neck uniform and I can see everyone looking at the scars and I am humiliated by the state of my neck with the scars as its so obvious that they are there as a result of a cosmetic procedure thats gone wrong!
