Shapewear after having a baby

I am due to give birth this month and am in need of advise with regards to shapewear/control garments that I can use quite soon after the birth (like Gwyneth Paltrow did) Has anyone used shapewear postnatally to help get your figure back? Did it work?

gemy - i didnt have any expensive shapewear but did go to trusty primark for some not so sex but ever so cheap hold me ins. they were £6 - go from boob to hip and helped me feel less wobbly when having to face the world!

Oooh merryonion that sounds good! Are they actually called 'hold-me-ins' (sorry if silly question) were they located in the underwear department? And, did you find them comfortable?

gemy - i did indeed find them in the undie dept - right next to the control knickers!!!! i actually dont know the name of them - but they come in white, flesh coloured and black. i bought a size smaller than i am and whilst they are not that comfy - they are not too bad neither. did nearly give myself a hernia tryingt o get it on the first time. now learnt to pull it up , rather than going over the head option!

spanx high and mighty are the bestest ones imo. all made of tights type fabric and thus, v comfy with no visible line at edges.

wore some other evening and was quite something to stride about all firm and taut

got mine in undie dept of john lewis btw

Oooh thanks Brandy - will check them out too

Agree that Spanx are the best. Depends what size you end up being, though. I was a 18-20 after I had my son and not even Spanx fitted me (and I find the large ones the most generous fitting of the many I have tried). At about a 16-18 they fitted but just gave me a pregnant looking belly as they smoothed out all my rolls into one bump! I'm now a 14 and they really do work wonders, particularly underneath dresses. I'd reccomend the ones that come with little hooks to attach to your bra, as the ones without end up rolling down once you've been wearing them a few hours (ime).
