I would like a beautiful scarf

I have a new wool coat, it's a rich burgundy / wine colour. It's long with lapels and a belt (a bit like a very beautiful dressing gown!)

I would love a beautiful scarf to wear with it, and I'm looking for recommendations.

I don't know if I should go for silk or wool or cashmere..

If you've seen anything nice please point me in the right direction.

I am 50 and tall, size 12. I mainly dress from Whistles, Jigsaw, Sezane etc

For my 60th birthday i got a present of 2 Alexander mcqueen scarfs. Black/ cream Cream/ black. I have worn them with everything. Pure silk and still perfect 3 years later.

Thank you all for so many amazing suggestions and links. I adore the first Liberty one but I also LOVE the Helen Gordon St Ives and am working out which colour would work best with a rich wine coloured coat now...

Thanks again, this had been a fun thread!

I meant Hilary Grant of course!

Helen Moore for good faux fur hats and accessories when winter really starts to bite.... just leaving that thought here.

Belindabelle · 05/10/2021 12:48

@UniBallEye Would you mind posting a link to your coat. Sounds exactly like what I am after only I would ideally prefer camel.

Some of there scarves are gorgeous. I have lusted after a Hermes silk scarf for ever. Maybe this will be the year but I need a new coat too.

And this is why it’s wise to be a little miserly about spreading the name of one’s favourite (tiny, limited stock) brand all over MN. Demand explodes, prices rise, the thing I’ve been saving my pennies for - heartbreakingly sold out … Angry

Grin

I've already bought a Hilary Grant blanket this year (stalked her on Instagram so I knew when the new stock was coming out) so happy to share the love Grin.

That is a gorgeous coat 😍

AnnieKenney · 06/10/2021 17:29

I cannot recommend these scarves enough: www.ovcio.com/

So so soft.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 06/10/2021 17:57

I’d say that with such a classically designed coat, you’d be best with something exaggerated or playful in your scarf.

citycitycity · 06/10/2021 18:06

That’s a beautiful coat - where is it from?

My scarf contribution is n.peal cashmere.

Thank you all. I bought it last year from Atterly, but the brand is Palones.
It is a really beautiful coat and has patterned silk lining and check fabric under the lapel.

Based on seeing the coat, which scarf would you put with it?

I'm in love with some of the silk Liberty scarves. I really need a job.

AnnieSnap · 06/10/2021 20:31

Seasalt scarves are always great quality and very affordable. I like this one in pure wool.

LizzieMacQueen · 06/10/2021 21:37

I'd recommend an Aspinal scarf. They have some playful designs. I'd wait until they do one of their 15% offers.

I would like a beautiful scarf
Isaidnomorecrisps · 07/10/2021 08:02

@Belindabelle my mother bought me two Hermes scarves in my 20s for birthdays - I’m 53 and wore the red and classic blue only last night! They’ve done me proud ……🙂

Belindabelle · 07/10/2021 16:01

@Isaidnomorecrisps I almost bought one for my 30th but I couldn’t decide on a colour. Then children, bigger mortgages etc came along and they were off my radar.

Had I bought one then I would have had over 20 years use out of it by now and cost per wear it would have been a bargain. Also I am sure they ‘only’ cost about £120 back then, which was a fortune at the time but doesn’t seem so much now relatively speaking.

MamaNorth · 13/10/2021 12:42

I bought two Hilary Grant scarves on the back of this thread and they are LOVELY!

Another one seconding avoca, I have an absolutely beautiful pale grey cashmere scarf from them that I will quite likely wear until the structural integrity of its molecules is questionable.

Lillibettina · 14/10/2021 00:45

V&A museum is often good for slightly different accessories. This would be my choice from there

My favourite scarf is a heavy weight silk scarf my DM bought bought me.

EllaPaella · 15/10/2021 11:21

@JaninaDuszejko

I'm currently obsessed with Hilary Grant's knitwear, currently lusting after the St Ives scarf. Her stuff is gorgeous.
Oh wow! Those scarfs are amazing!
anon666 · 15/10/2021 19:04

Some of these are really lovely. I would second the person that said you can get very good value scarves.
