I've been invited out to lunch with a friend tomorrow and she's booked a Michelin star place in London which is very current. I do live in London but due to lockdown and having a baby I've basically lived in leggings for 18 months!

Ive got no time to go shopping now. What can I wear from my own wardrobe?

It's only Saturday lunch so I don't want to be too over dressed but at the same time my pjs and bobbly jumper won't cut it.

I'm early 30's tall size 12 ish if that helps. Please can anyone suggest an outfit or even a specific look and then I can see if I have anything in my wardrobe? 🙏

Lunch?

What would you normally wear?

I have a lovely black midi leather skirt and some little back books with a cropped crew neck cashmere sweater in dusty pink. Then little ankle boots and a big clutch bag. Push the sleeves up on the jumper. That’s my outfit.

Atalune · 01/10/2021 15:09

Oh sorry I saw it is lunch.

I might wide leg trousers instead. with white trainers.

Lookatthat · 01/10/2021 15:19

Which restaurant is it? Or if you don’t want to say, which area in London? They can massively vary in dress code/style.

SirenSays · 01/10/2021 15:33

I'd probably wear a pencil skirt with a white shirt or oversized blazer/jumper. What options do you have in your wardrobe?

Atalune · 01/10/2021 15:51

*boots

PickledOnionMonsterMunchies · 01/10/2021 15:54

No pencil skirts. I have an assortment of the following:

90's jeans - Zara
New flare jeans - Zara
Dark Black wide leg jeans
Long sleeve high neck printed maxi dress - dark blue with teal print
2 x hush printed dresses (I wore in summer but they are black with bright floral print)
I white silk shirt (has a stain on the boob haha!)
I new green cardi
I lilac sweater
Various satin shirts / blouses (some different types of print, blue leopard etc, some plain)
Various blazers (black, cream check, baby blue)

Coats - wise I've got
Olive green oversized trench
Green shacket
Pale grey mid length coat
Leather jacket
Winter coat too warm

Shoes:
Veja v-lock trainers
Various white plimsoles
Black vans
Black biker boots
Black mid heel ankle boots

No skirts I have fit me after the baby!

Don't want to say but it's definitely fairly new (last 2-3 yrs) so not I've of the old established French ones, and v cutting edge!

jeans and t-shirt. Same as I'd wear to a club, grocery shopping, theater or work. Why the fuss?
You are not the main attraction, you are there to consume a service that you are paying for. As long as you are clean and tidy it should be fine.

PickledOnionMonsterMunchies · 01/10/2021 16:16

Wow, way to make a woman feel good @TheSunIsStillShining HmmHmm

Why the "fuss" (if that's what posting a style question on the style forum is 🤷‍♀️) is like I said, I had a baby in lockdown and haven't been out to a club, a theatre or work in 18 months. HTH.

From your wardrobe options, how about the maxi dress, leather jacket and black biker boots? Or trainers if it isn't throwing it down?

arootintootingoodtime · 01/10/2021 16:20

From that, I'd wear the wide-leg jeans, the V locks and the lilac sweater.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 01/10/2021 16:25

That’s a really odd response to a style and beauty post.

@Atalune your outfit sounds amazing.

@PickledOnionMonsterMunchies from your list I’m drawn to the oversized trench and wide leg jeans with the mid heal ankle boots. Not sure about tops though, shame about the boob stain on the silk shirt. Maybe some more info about the lilac sweater? Will it go with the trench?
Can you post some pics of combos for us?

Floisme · 01/10/2021 16:47

It sounds like you've got a few options. If it was me, I'd start with the jeans - either the flares or the wide leg - with one of the blazers. And, if it'll fit over the top, the oversize trench. Maybe check there's no footwear dress code (we were once refused entry to the Ritz coffee shop because of trainers so I've been a bit paranoid ever since). And of course you feel uncertain - even in normal times, having a baby can do that to you. You'd have thought that wouldn't need spelling out on a parenting style and beauty board but here we are. Have a great time.

Elzbells · 01/10/2021 16:49

I would go maxi dress with a black leather jacket and trainer. Have fun

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 01/10/2021 16:52

P.s. my odd response comment want meant to quote a previous poster but the quote function didn’t work

PickledOnionMonsterMunchies · 01/10/2021 17:07

This is the lilac sweater from Mango. I think it might be a bit jumper-y.

I'm thinking wide leg black jeans, vejas, trench coat (it's raining tomorrow) and one of the silk shirts? That way if I do my make up nicely then my top half should look smart and I'll be hedging my bets?! 🤷‍♀️

Atalune · 02/10/2021 08:11

Sorry- just came back to this.

I think your outfit option sounds PERFECT. just make sure the jeans have enough room so you can eat and eat and eat!!

Have a brilliant day.

PickledOnionMonsterMunchies · 02/10/2021 10:04

Haha thank you @Atalune ! I've actually changed my mind now, as I tried on a shirt with jeans and felt there was too much mum tum! Not that anyone else would care but just so I felt comfortable I've decided to wear my dress, which is a midi/maxi length high neck long sleeve, with trench coat and either vejas or ankle boots.

OP posts:
Atalune · 02/10/2021 15:49

Well that’s interesting as that was going to be my second suggestion from your list- the dress

Hope you’ve had a brilliant day!

PegasusReturns · 02/10/2021 15:52

From your list I’d do wide leg jeans a satin blouse or t shirt and a blazer.

PegasusReturns · 02/10/2021 15:53

Oh sorry I didn’t read through to end. Your outfit sounds great - hope lunch was lovely!

PickledOnionMonsterMunchies · 02/10/2021 20:12

Thank you! It was great, thank you! I felt just right in what I wore. Did see some people in trainers but it was a mixed bag! First outing since mumhood :-)
