Does anyone else just not give a sh1t any more?

I'm 42 next week and something is happening to me. I guess I was/am kind of a rock chick, if you want to give it a label, but recently, (maybe since covid?)...
Well it's like I'm quietly waiting for the world to explode. Like I wouldn't be surprised if I woke up tomorrow and it was raining monkeys.
I think I want to burn everything I own with underwire. I haven't worn a pair of heels in over 2 years and I have no interest in doing so. I've stopped wearing makeup every damn day.
Anyone else had an existential crisis they feel like sharing recently?

Me! Same. I'm 40. I miss my rock look, but can't be fucked. I WFH so what's the point?

StCharlotte · 30/09/2021 23:10

The style and beauty board would indicate otherwise.

Are you working?

Raaaaaaarr · 30/09/2021 23:17

I'm like this too. After years and years of make up, work clothes, heel etc I just can't be bothered. I have gaudy armpits, hairy legs, unclipped toe nails and I just don't care. It's liberating. I pull myself together a little bit if I have to see anyone but that's about it. I still dye my hair at least.

Raaaaaaarr · 30/09/2021 23:17

Hairy armpits!! Auto correct!

Raaaaaaarr · 30/09/2021 23:18

I'm WFH too....

FazeleysRoyale · 30/09/2021 23:52

Yep ! Same here. I'm in my early fifties. I don't wear make up unless special occasion involving going to visit someone or going Out Out, and certainly not to work. Have stopped straightening my hair and embraced the wave/curl. Hair got long in lockdowns and what a revelation - I can tie it back for work. This stuff saves time in the mornings.

I only wear a bra for work or if going out to meet people (especially in tee shirt weather). Hairy legs and pits is normal autumn/winter state of affairs for me. I possess some high heeled shoes but can't remember when I last wore any of them because I walk a lot. I've just bought some smart black trainers that I'm hoping to get away with wearing to work.

With you here! Used to be middling polished, now all over the place. I always assumed my ‘end of the world apocalypse’ uniform would be less formal. Who knew?

TonyThreePies · 01/10/2021 00:00

Yeah me too. I decided to grow out the dye over lockdown, put on weight and turned 50. I've gone from glamming up for nights out to pjs on the sofa and I'm so much more content. I've also ditched underwire bras now I have to wear them again now I'm back in the office. I've discovered these and no longer feel the need to whip my bra off the second I walk through the door.

EccentricaGalumbits · 01/10/2021 00:18

Like most pp I can't be arsed with daily shaving or makeup and live in very casual clothes, but in some ways I'm more fastidious because I have more time and money on my hands having been in lockdown for the best part of this year and last (in Melbourne).

So my skincare routine is better, my nails are always done because they're a good time killer in boring WFH meetings, when I do get to go properly 'out' I put in a lot of effort.

I've probably spent more time than ever before thinking about beauty and fashion, spent a lot of time online browsing and shopping, following blogs etc and have overhauled my wardrobe. You wouldn't guess it from looking at me day to day though Grin

Hempress · 01/10/2021 05:53

It's my first time back here in a long time, so sorry if this is in the wrong place. Thanks for the heads up.

And yes, but I work for myself and looks aren't an important part of my job.

Don't get me wrong, I scrub up alright, I just don't find the same pleasure in it at the moment I guess. Much happier in jeans and a t-shirt.

Very similar here, although I've recently discovered the Fantasie range of bra's in john Lewis where their underwired bras are genuinely comfortable. I don't feel like I'm wearing anything. I've never had a bra like it, so I bought three more in different styles from the same range and they are all as comfortable as the other.

Genuine game changer.

lazylinguist · 01/10/2021 07:56

I'm the opposite- after years of not giving a shit, I'm about to turn 50 and have started taking more of an interest in clothes, buying few but better quality, have had my hair highlighted for the first time in decades. I continue to wear make-up every day because I have pale, sallow skin. Never heels though - I have always found them excruciatingly uncomfortable.

I live fairly rurally and work doesn't require me to be particularly smart, but I'm enjoying looking a bit more put together (by my own low standards, that is, not by S&B standards, which would probably still consider me a scruff!)
