Leather trousers, tight waistband….any hope

I’ve bought some leather trousers and they fit perfectly around the hips but the waistband is quite tight, too tight really for comfort. Going up a size would mean the hips and legs would be too baggy and I understand leather trousers stretch anyway. Yes of course losing the covid pounds would solve the problem and I hope to do that but it’s an expensive mistake to make if I can’t wear them. What’s the chances of the waistband giving too, does anyone have any experience of this please before I sadly return them?

I changed the waistband on a pait of leather trousers that I had had many years, and got the seamstress to re-use a belt from a black jeans skirt to gain a little more space. It's worked: they're still wearable, although I have to cover the waist with my top.

Thank you, I had considered having the waist band altered but I was really hoping it might give a bit with wear. I’m guessing probably not because of the stitching, I think I might have to admit defeat
