Peri menopause and newly wavy hair ?

I'm noticing my hair becoming wavy from being more or less hanging poker straight
It's waving if left wet but a crap wave
Can I encourage kg do you think into more bra by waves or just dig out the GHDs I never needed to use really?

I’ve had exactly the same problem! I use straighteners when I have to be somewhere nice (or give a talk on zoom), and just leave them curly the rest of the time. I’ve also had a haircut - a french bob, that seems to work better with the curls.

It’s very strange as my hair was always dead straight, and I envied my friends with wavy/ curly hair. I’ve decided to just embrace it.

ForsythiaInBloom · 22/09/2021 10:01

This happened to me. I like it, actually. My hair is now quite Kristen Wiig and better than the straight hair I had. You need to control the frizz with a hair oil or smoother (all new to me). DH calls it my surfer girl look.

Happened to me too -bit confusing as my peri coincided with birth of dc2- but I can sadly confirm it’s going back to its lank normality now that meno is in full swing.

eurochick · 22/09/2021 10:09

I have this too. My hair always had a slight wave to it and was very porous but it is another level of wavy now.

MyrealnameisBernard · 22/09/2021 17:55

God my typos 😳 sorry ! Bra = beachy
I haven't tried yet to encourage it with product. It's very fine hair but a lot of it so does still go greasy. It's confusing.

Kerastase do loads of light oil sprays - brilliant for wavy hair

AnyFucker · 22/09/2021 21:17

Yep, same here. Weird.

MyrealnameisBernard · 23/09/2021 20:28

By very fine I mean thin of course. Not fine as in mighty fine - it's far from it 😂

Me too, even the hairdresser remarked that I now have a natural curl Shock

Notagain20 · 23/09/2021 20:36

Oh I'd love that! Mine is still dead straight and fine but has gone from a naturally light blonde to dark mouse 😕

ShangPie · 24/09/2021 07:39

Another one here, altho I found highlights and colouring made it worse - it dries out my hair and the wave gets more intense (not better sadly)

Taking elements of the Curly Girl Method (there is so much about this online) has helped, but it’s all trial and error depending on your hair type, wave pattern, etc. For me, using mostly silicone-free products and getting through improbably large amounts of conditioner each wash have helped tame it.

I have 2A waves and with time and products can just about get it to a decent-looking 2B. It makes a difference on wash day, but I’m too lazy to wash and style it every other day Blush, so I just deal with 1-2 acceptable hair days every week and just tie it up the rest of the time.

When I think about my old hair that just sat lank straight and flat and took no effort at all, I was so jealous of waves and curls, but now I realise it’s actually really bloody annoying to not just wash and go. Grass is always greener and all that…

Bagelsandbrie · 24/09/2021 08:01

Yep same here…!

goose1964 · 24/09/2021 10:09

I have 2C curls but the best way to maintain them is sls free shampoo, I use a solid one, and plenty of conditioner, I currently use a cheapo argan oil one. Every so often I do a deep condition and once a month a cowash.

You may not need to do this but an sls free shampoo and conditioner without silicon made the biggest improvement.

knackeredcat · 24/09/2021 11:23

I've always had long loose waves (2a?) that straightened quite well, but the last year or so my hair has definitely become finer, wavier and nearly impossible to straighten. If I leave it to air dry it's more like 3a these days. I'm 45.

MyrealnameisBernard · 24/09/2021 17:19

Off to google these numbers but suspect mine would be a 1b 🤣

Oh no please don’t tell me this happens to everyone! I’ve already got uncontrollably curly hair, god knows what I’m going to look like if it gets curlier. I’m already at the stage of mad wild woman - I think I’m going to need a hat.

MyrealnameisBernard · 24/09/2021 17:22

Haven't checked the numbers but look. Weird. Big at sides and bottom a d flat and balding on top. FFS
