Occasion dress for 12 year old

I desperately need an occasion dress or top and skirt for DDs Bat mitzvah. Ideally it needs sleeves or a bolero/shrug to cover the shoulders. It can’t be trousers or a jumpsuit. We’ve tried all the lipsy dresses from next but none were quite right. Please help. I’ve just been scammed out of £86 for trying to buy from a fake monsoon outlet shop. There’s nothing in the actual monsoon shop. She’s too small for an adult size 4 and there only seems to be flowery tea dresses which aren’t really smart enough.

Have you got a screenshot of the fake monsoon one you ordered? So we know the kind of style?

WimpoleHat · 21/09/2021 17:47

Have you looked at Rachel Riley? Some of their styles go up to age 14 and are lovely (if rather pricey - but the quality is fantastic). John Lewis also do an “Heirloom Collection” and some of those styles go to age 14 as well. I struggled with this looking for an outfit for my DD for a wedding; she was too big for kids sizes, but adult stuff was a bit inappropriate. They had nice things in both shops in the summer, so might be worth a look.

I ordered a prom dress for dd from JJs house. Measures her really carefully followong the guide online and although there was a slight glitch with the order it arrived and was really lovely. Good quality and cost around £60. I had also ordered a spare new from ebay from same company and also lovely. Worth a look if you dont need quickly. Took around 3 weeks I think.

Have you looked at Apricot? I found a lovely dress for DD1 to wear at a wedding when she was that age. Their sizes come up small and they are very reasonably priced.

TickledOnion · 21/09/2021 19:11

I looked at JJs house but I think I’ve left it too late. I need it for 16th October.

Top left is one ordered from the scam site.
DD likes the grey one too right but I don’t know what to wear on top to cover shoulders. And I think it’s a bit bridesmaidy with the sequins.

John Lewis Heirloom collection a good idea:

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-heirloom-collection-kids-lace-bodice-dress-teal/p5707674?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Clymene · 21/09/2021 19:26

I was going to suggest John Lewis

I think the John Lewis are a bit young for her.

Have you seen this Monsoon one at Next - bit sequiny but might be an option?

Or this one - of it's not too shimmery - www.next.co.uk/style/st906428/A52069#A52069?i=1213years

Good luck - I hope you find something and that your daughter has a wonderful day.

Ok so opposite end of the spectrum but when my dad died, Dd1 wanted a 'posh' dress for his funeral and I got a navy flowery sort of 50s shape dress from primark which she wore with a nice cardigan and a belt.

It was really smart and age appropriate - she would happily wear that outfit now still at almost 12. I was surprised tbh as I'd trolled through every high street shop and found nothing as nice.

Is ASOS petite worth a look? Dd is tall for her age and skinny but fits a 4 there. Lots of shite but the odd gem.

This company has some lovely girls' occasion dresses.

I thought these were nice from Monsoon - I don't think sequins are particularly bridesmaidy

I second this website. Really nice stuff

Geamhradh · 22/09/2021 06:59

DD just got her 18th birthday party dress from Ever Pretty on Amazon. Grin
We'd tried: all the high street inc department stores, Monsoon, Next, JL, Chi Chi etc.
Ever Pretty was perfect! £40. (it's prom/bridesmaid stuff though which might be a bit formal)
