If you are short and dumpy what do you wear with a skirt?

I’m 5’2 and a size 16/18.

I’d love to wear a longish velvet skirt, tights and boots for the winter but don’t know what kind of top to wear with the skirt? I need something long or 3/4 sleeved but I have a mum tum and do t want anything too tight but then I can’t wear a loose top as it won’t look right.

Any ideas please?

You could wear a top that is body skimming not tight or loose, or a tunic or a shirt. I often wear a crew neck cardigan with buttons. I'm not dumpty but I find the line of the buttons draws the eye upwards.

A sheer top over a camisole would look good for a night out.

If you are going for something loose, you could use a french tuck to make it a bit more flattering.

Tucked-in silky t-shirt?

A skirt just over or just below the knee will be the most flattering anything longer just isn't I've found. Now that the weathers cooler you have a great option of tights and boots.

As for a top you need one that's not too long and hits you around your hips and never too tight. Blouses from Boden generally seem to be the right fit and cut well especially if you have bigger boobs I've found. Don't make the mistake of covering up with tops that are too long, but just long enough to cover up the tummy without riding up
