Football/rugby mums - can we talk winter clothing?

For those of us resigned to spend hours of our weekends at the side of a pitch in all weathers - does anyone have any recommendations for stylish, but practical clothes?

I've got my eye on this Boden coat: https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/bamburgh-raincoat-navy-khaki/sty-u0012-nav?code=J5N5&cmmmc=PLAAGooglele14632253885512655595734545pla-297414535428&gclid=CjwKCAjw4qCKBhAVEiwAkTYsPIWAN-plsEb1ywhrCsOzxUbJytk0uRzbhX4C1plTDmF7h74cEb4F-RoCs2sQAvDD_BwE

I would like some sheepskin lined boots but so far haven't been able to find any with good grippy soles that can be cleaned easily. Any suggestions?

Uurgghhh. Dreading standing for 90 minutes in 0° weather, howling wind, numb face feet and hands.

Following for more recommendations!

Love that coat, think I'm gonna go full length puffer though! With thermal leggings and tops!

Love this one! Unsure how it would cope with the Scottish rain though!

This coat is gorgeous and looks so warm. Like you, not sure I'd trust it in torrential rain!

As nice as full length puffers are very few are truly waterproof unless you look at brands like Didriksons. For boots have you considered neoprene wellies, warm and will keep your feet dry too. Standing on a touch line is never going to be stylish so I figure you may as well be warm and dry.

Sadly my feet are too wide for Sorel Lennox boots but they are lovely!

To be honest as someone who has done many years on the side line...style goes out the window.. insulated gloves, north face waterproof, and a thermos flask for my coffee and a portable chair

Didriksons looks like a great shout, thank you!

I send DH. I occasionally go, watch for 10mins then slope off to the nearby shops. Lovely and warm. Grin

its a bit of kids rugby/football not a catwalk. As someone who spends every sunday in the team manager role for local club i dont give a shit if you look trendy and warm, just make sure your kid is on GMS and you have paid your subs.

Xiaoxiong · 20/09/2021 20:38

I have the Seasalt Janelle (it's a MN cliche for a reason!!) Which is very similar to that Didriksons one but for a smaller price and I find it roomy enough in my usual size to wear layers underneath. I wear that with normal wellies with sheepskin insoles, plus a hat. I also try and walk round and round the pitch if I can to keep warm!!

Aye ok mum.

I'd rather chose things I can incorporate into my other outfits too. Just because clothing is practical doesn't mean it can't be stylish/aesthetic..

Makinglists · 20/09/2021 20:54

Thermals - whatever you choose to wear have a complete set of thermals underneath. Also self heating handwarmers are lifesavers.

Nearlyadoctor · 20/09/2021 21:02

Have a look at Fairfax and Favor Boudicca boots or Ariat Goretex insulated boots - particularly the later are so warm.

Good idea!

I've also got a Yuyu bottle which is a long thin hot water bottle that you can tie around your middle! Wear it under a coat on the particularly brutally cold days.

I always wore thermal socks in trainers, layers of tops too. I echo previous poster what said it's not a fashion show. Luckily mine are now too old, but my grandsons are getting to that age.Keep warm by jumping up and down cheering the team.

OhLordyWhatNow · 21/09/2021 01:24

I second Didricksons for coats, and when it's really chilly put a Uniqlo down gilet under.

My best ever pitch side boots were a kind of snow boot from Teva. Thermal soles, water proof, and mine had removable warm washable liners so if you needed to pop into the club house you could remove muddy boots but keep your feet warm.

Dddccc · 21/09/2021 02:28

So stalking this thread first winter rugby mum haha I have hiking boots and thermal socks so far
