Where do you shop if you are petite but love shops like Arket, Cos and &Other stories? Am not all that short 5.3 but am quite a small person in general and I just find that all the clothes in the above shops just swamp me. The current oversized look is great in theory but I just look like a child wearing adult clothes. Shops like Mango, H&M and Zara were great but I feel like going for slightly nicer quality.

For example, at the moment, am after a nice midi-dress to wear with boots but I just dont see so be able to find one anywhere.

Anyone else in the same positoin as me? Where do you shop?

Ridiculous isn't it that they don't make clothes for shorter women ! The dimensions are just all wrong on my 5 foot ness ! 🙄

I'm watching this thread with interest! I'm the same height as you OP and am overall a small build (size 6-8), and to be honest I've long since stopped trying to wear anything oversized as it always looks like I'm wearing my husbands clothes. I live in skinny jeans and fitted T-shirt's.

pqonh374 · 19/09/2021 15:56

@LolaRoses it's so annoying isnt it. Recently bought a trench coat from Mango and my husband's comment was: it's nice but it just looks like it's just too big for you, there's too much material. I would love to embrace the whole wider trousers/jumpers trend and I think it must be possible so long as it's like a petite version. I just don't feel inspired by clothes from New Look, Whistles, Boden or Next i.e. shops with a petite range. Anyone?

I am shorter than you. I buy from Massimo Dutti, Banana Republic (petite), J Crew (Petite), Jigsaw and Phase Eight.

Some uniqlo stuff is good - the designer partnerships can be very “cos” but in Asian size.

Sometimes Gap throws up nice things but it can be hit and miss. It's slim pickings out there for us petites and so frustrating with everything moving online as you can't try things. River Island have some decent bits but the range in stores is narrow. I have some lovely petite jeans from there though.

Asos has occasionally got nice petite trousers, but watch the fabrics.

I’m a smidge taller but similar frame and struggle with this too.

I look better if either top or bottom are fitted.

I am 5'2 and know exactly what you mean. I have a few trousers and jeans from next which are 'ok'...nothing special. I don't have much to help, as I also feel swamped by the oversized look that is current. I do make some of my own clothes, mostly tops or dresses and these are the only things that really fit to my proportions. Would love to hear of some good petite shops also! X

lindyloo57 · 19/09/2021 19:27

I am 5ft2 and agree with all that has been said, I can never wear oversize as always feel that it drowns me, I have this last two years got into wide leg trousers, as long as they fit neat on the bum and hips they look great, I've sometimes struggle with tops as anything to blouson makes me look much bigger on top, I have a inverted triangle shape so a 12 top with 10 bottom half, so I'm finding fitted on top with wide leg trousers or a flowing midi skirt looks best.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 19/09/2021 19:30

I shop at... Those places. I just don't buy the stuff that swamps me, but I've always found things that don't. I don't find stories.com stuff to be necessarily oversized. I also love Kin but again, don't buy the stuff that doesn't work.

I would recommend a good tailor!
