What 'updos' are suitable a 45+ year old woman?

So hair has been long since lockdown (about armpit length) and I want to do more updos especially as it's looking thinner and I'm a bit self conscious of a tiny gap in my scalp. The most I ever do is a bun but only when I'm feeling hot and bothered.

I've tried half-updos, ponytails etc but they make me look like a schoolgirl and french rolls look a bit severe/officey (OK for the office I suppose). I live in buns but they're so boring! What do others suggest? I want to look stylish and my-age-but-young, not frumpy if that makes sense. (OK a bit younger, but not schoolgirl!)

Would appreciate any suggestions for decent (and easy) hairdos. TIA!

Could you buy a claw clip and do a 'messy french twist'? We used to do this in the nineties and instead of tucking the ends in you left them dangling. Will try and find a picture.

Is that Kate hudson? That actually looks fab, I haven't used claw clips in years! Always associated them with extreme frumpiness.

I have long hair and live for claw clips - I use little ones for half-up-half down dos. They are my daily 'style'

I generally do 2 Dutch braids and pin up the tails at the back.

You need to get on Pinterest - it has millions of hair 20 second videos from TikTok on it - all stupidly easy and really effective

Looks beautiful. I don't think I will ever be able to achieve this in a million years lol

I've just looked on Etsy and there are some amazingly modern claw clip styles these days, I used to think they were so boring! This one is stunning:

Oh that's really cute.

I bought some claw clasps just last week. Worn with neat or messy hair, I'm finding them brilliant.

You just need to watch some YouTube tutorials on Dutch braiding on yourself, that’s what I did. The kids went away with DH at half term in June and I taught myself then!

Once you have the braids in, you just pin them to your head with Kirby grips. It’s really easy once you’ve cracked the braids.

I’d recommend a styling comb, a water spray and some small snag proof clear hair bobbles.

@Marmite27 thanks, my hair is too thin to look good with this style unfortunately Sad too much scalp showing. I hate peri!

@LaurieFairyCake I've just had a look on Pinterest, some beautiful styles. Time to crawl out from under my rock where I've been living! I'm guessing it's the Friends/Rachel influence since it's been back on TV eh!
