What to wear on my head at a small wedding

Just that really. Going to a wedding next weekend that we have been upgraded from reception guests to attending the ceremony. My dress will be fine but I haven't bought anything for my head. How do I fancy this up - I understand fascinators are so last year (if not last century).

I don’t think you ‘have’ to do anything! But if you want to, depending on the style of your dress etc there are some beautiful hair bands etc these days! What works with your dress/style?

No one in a fascinator is ever fascinating
Fact
Wear anything or nothing but never a fascinator

Mumdiva99 · 15/09/2021 10:20

I would wear a fascinator if it was a posh do. Nothing if it wasn't. (I don't get the MN obsession with them being outdated).

ISeeTheLight · 15/09/2021 10:21

Nothing? Get some statement earrings instead.

Leah2005 · 15/09/2021 10:38

@Perpop I have very fine slippy hair which doesn't hold a curl or a clip at all but a headband might do it.
@ISeeTheLight earrings itch me like crazy which is sad because Iove to see them.

I recently went to a very smart “county” wedding. Only family members wore hats. Everyone else was bare-headed.

Only wear something on your head if it elevates your overall look.
Re earrings, try a blob of Vaseline on the post to create a barrier and prevent irritation

traintraveller · 15/09/2021 11:09

The last few weddings I've been to there were only 3 or 4 guests with a fascinator or hat on. I've never worn anything on my head to a wedding.

tempchecked · 15/09/2021 11:11

I just do not understand the hate for fascinators. We call them mini hats here! Some are just lovely and really set off an outfit without leaving you with a "hat head"! I suppose it is slavish following of influencers/trends or something that led to this.

Try a few mini hats, look online of course and if you feel good wearing one, you will look good.

I wouldn't usually wear something on my head but I was thinking because we are the only guests other than family, I might be the odd one out without a bit of frou frou. Although why that should bother me, I don't know.
@Chocolatecoatedkettlebell I could do with a bit of elevation being only 5ft tall. Smile Good shout with the vaseline - I'll try it.

Headband or nothing I would say.
Hats/fascinators always seem very summery to me.
