What do you wear to go out on a Saturday night for a meal that isn’t too hot in your forties? Help

My last meal out was jeans, nice shoes and top, hair and make up nice. But it was middle of the road not an upmarket restaurant, so suppose it depends on the venue too.

We were just lamenting last night that there’s nowhere you can go out for a Saturday night meal these days that is actually formal.

I mean, yes on the whole it’s great that you could go even to most Michelin starred restaurants now and be pretty casual, but there’s really nowhere that you might go to and wear a cocktail dress now.

It’s kind of a shame. Sometimes I liked to get dolled up and the opportunity comes up once in a blue moon.

I’m not suggesting bringing back tailcoats for the cinema or anything, but you don’t even get a workplace dinner and dance anymore.

This is not a helpful post. Probably the answer to your question is, whatever you fancy.

I usually wear a dress and 'smart designer' trainers. If it's colder, I like a fake leather skirt and trainers, or a dress and boots.

Bluntness100 · 12/09/2021 21:53

What do you mean a Meal that’s not too hot?

I wear good jeans, heeled suede boots and one of my many silk sleeveless round neck top normally, 😂

Disabrie22 · 13/09/2021 07:06

I get hot so quickly - so defo sleeveless

My experience from many London restaurants including Michelin starred ones. Smart Jeans, nice dressy 'ish' top and jacket with some lovely heels is the standard.

Ostryga · 13/09/2021 07:46

Usually if I’m out it’s jeans, blouse and heels.

Only ever wear a dress if it’s 3 stars, or the dress code (on the website) states formal wear.

Restinblue · 13/09/2021 07:50

It’s dresses and trainers everywhere isn’t it?

actiongirl1978 · 13/09/2021 07:50

I wear a dress. I have good arms so happy to be sleeveless and I don't wear anything below my knee so I'm usually comfy and cool too! Bare legs summer, tights winter.

Bakingtraypan · 13/09/2021 08:43

Usually a shirt, jeans and Blundstone boots, very occasionally a dress with chunky boots. In a nutshell - wear what you like, most likely to look out of place if you are overly dressed up or formal - but even then thankfully no one cares!

I went out yesterday for lunch and wore a red linen shirt dress from monsoon and navy heels. For me it was an occasion (birthday) and I’m not bothered that most were sitting round looking like they had just walked out of the gym.

I’m not bothered that most were sitting round looking like they had just walked out of the gym. Yet somehow making this comment suggests you are bothered. Wink
