Autumn, season of coats and fabulous bootfullness…what are you wearing/buying?

Oh I love autumn! It’s frustratingly too hot to wear my lovely boots but I’m musing about what to invest in this autumn/winter (I say invest, I don’t mean stupid prices!). I loved my fur-lined DMs last year but found they weren’t as waterproof as I’d have liked, and my Fairfax boudicas were fab for day to day but perhaps a bit too clumpy to wear with dresses or for going out in the evening. I do have some heeled ankle boots but I’m not sure if they are a bit dated now - what boots are you planning to wear for daytime and/or going out?

Fairfax and Favor Boudicas, Explorers and tan heeled Reginas. A pair of black suede ankle boots from Ted Baker. And a pair of navy suede Chelsea boots from Rydale.

Coats - a dark rose pink teddy coat bought from Next for those ‘cold but sunny days’ (I think I was feeling optimistic when I bought it)
A Superdry dark navy down hooded jacket for cold/wet days (the down is ethically produced)
A cream woollen collared coat I bought ages ago from RI as my ‘smart’ coat
A sky blue regatta thin anorak for downpours. Wearing it at the moment in fact. I hate that I now own an anorak but I hate umbrellas and getting wet hair after styling it

I think I need a good strong parka or Barbour jacket to finish the collection.

Feet - my day to day is a pair of black pumas or the gola grandslam. I have a pair of black suede boots with a cork heel from UGG (sort of western style but not too much) which are very tough & somehow still look smart after lots of wear. I want to buy some nice not-clumpy brogues for work, and a pair of ankle height wellies for winter walks.

I’m over the moon to have FINALLY found slim mom jeans that flatter my bum and don’t make me bloat/cut me in two when I sit down, so I bought 2 pairs. I imagine I’ll be wearing them all winter with sweatshirts and a beanie for bad hair days.

@Realyorkshiretea - Any chance you could share where you found the slim, flattering mom jeans? I would be very grateful Smile

A boho poncho for upcoming cool mornings.
Khaki parka after that.
A teal coatigan that's more coat than cardigan as the weather gets cooler.
My down filled black full length coat for full on winter.

For boots I have two pairs of Sorel waterproof Chelsea style boots, a pair of Ecco hightop sneaker boots, Doc style boots that are waterproof for really wet days and days when snow is melting, and then snow boots for snowy winter weather.

www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2838065_c128/blue-boucle-shacket-blue this shacket which is much nicer and bluer in real life !

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/09/2021 06:39

All the stripey jumpers
I ordered some cowboy boots but the order was cancelled, now considering whether they are necessary.

Oooh some lovely ideas - thank you! Can’t wait for the temperature to drop a bit.
Coat-wise, I REALLY don’t need any more but I can’t wait to get my navy duvet coat back out. Also have a nice grey tweedy ‘proper’ coat which I hardly wore last year as there was nowhere to go to wear it.
Boots: I could do with some ‘going out’ boots to wear with dresses and coated jeans. Are ankle boots still in?! I saw some sock boots the other day - are they coming back in or still a bit dated?

We missed a winter of fashion, so I'm really not sure what's "in" for ankle boots yet! I'm still seeing hikers and Docs for day and I'd be surprised if heeled black ankle boots went anywhere. R&B have leather sock boots at one end of the pricing scale, with ASOS at the other end.

I've got a Burberry Daylesmoore wool coat which will be coming out for the first time since DS was born. I can trust him not to wreck it now he's 3! I do have a Diesel parka for everyday but it's very worn so I need a replacement.

Of course, they’re the ‘Stradivarius’ slim mom jeans on ASOS. You’ll need to size up because their sizing is tiny - but they’re only £20! And come in a few colours.

I don’t think ankle boots will be ‘in’ this winter but I think lots of people will be wearing them regardless, I certainly will be.

I was walking around a university town yesterday, and to my horror it seems the winter keep-my-feet-dry shoes will be…

Platform trainers 😱

OMG- Spice Girls style with the enormous platforms?! I still have a pair of wedge trainers tucked away somewhere - remember them?! Wonder how long before they come back in… 🤣

Ok, I’m definitely leaving those to the teenagers! I do like chunky shoes/boots but they are pushing it 🤣

I have Sorel Cosy Joan boots. They’re incredibly warm and totally waterproof. Coat wise I’m desperate for one of those duvet coats, even though they’re no good in the rain.
