Dress for 40th

Hello wise mumsnetters,

I am looking to buy a dress for my 40th. I am usually size 8-10 in dresses but with a stubborn mum tum after 2 Caesarians and pear shaped with a flat chest.
I would like something with some sort of sleeve (long/mid/short sleeve is fine). Also preferably a pattern rather than plain coloured.

I want to splash out and happy to pay around £300 on it. I like the brand Cefinn but nothing is quite right. Any other similar brands you can think of?

Thanks for reading - I know there have been similar threads in the past that have helped others out!

As you are looking to spend quite a bit, have a look at the Selfridges, Fenwicks and Liberty websites.

I can recommend Silkfred too. Lots of choice there. Do let us know what you bought and maybe post a photo. I'm sure you'll look a million dollars.
Have a very happy and memorable birthday.

I wore a beautiful silk dress from The Kooples for my 40th- maybe have a look at their web sight. The styling can be a bit grunge/rock but the dresses are beautifully cut in lovely (often floral) patterns but not too twee.

I see SilkFred mentioned a lot - how is their sizing / generous or need to size up ? Thank you

Ooh yes do come back and update. I’ve never heard of Nancy Mac but some of those dresses are gorgeous.

Again with Joe Brown?? Always mentioned in fashion posts and so frumpy.

How about renting dress? By Rotation have some lovely dresses. You could even rent a bag or accessories and save yourself a fortune.

I have a similar body type to you. I usually wear a size 8 in dresses. They have to be looser on the bottom and more fitted on top. I recently bought a floral midi dress from Hush that fits well. I had to size down to a 6 as their clothes are a really generous fit. Not silk, but the fabric still feels nice. The one I bought is the Kensington with long sleeves. I don't think they do it anymore as it was in the sale, but lots of other options online like this one:
