The shock I needed. If I don't lose 10lbs before it gets cold, I won't be able to zip up my North Face parka

The sizing on those coats is so skimpy though, so warning to anybody buying one, I was a size 10/12 and bought a medium and when it arrived I thought ''eek not too much room to spare''.

I've had a lot on my mind this last year, and remaining fighting fit fell by the way side. I've put on 15 pounds. I can't zip up the expensive coat I bought less than a year ago.

This is the shock I needed.

Because as much as I do not like being overweight, I really really hate being cold.

You might not feel the cold so much this year with a few extra pounds Grin save you a fortune in expensive coats!!!

LizzieMacQueen · 04/09/2021 08:34

Oh dear, tough dilemma. Now is not the time to shun comfort food.

I'd suggest a long woollly scarf, leave the jacket unzipped so you can breathe and let the scarf fill the gap.

I’m the same with an expensive Merrill one. Size medium also. Was a bit of any eye opener as clearly my ‘size 12’ are much more generously sized!

AlohaMolly · 04/09/2021 08:42

I’m the same except I piled three stone on between August and Christmas last year Sad can’t afford new clothes and certainly not new winter coats. I’ve lost one stone of it but was fat in the first place…

ShingleBeach · 04/09/2021 08:43

Go for it OP! A 5 week re-set.

Before it starts to get actually cold.

What is your method?

Oh that's true! Ive never experienced a winter with this much natural padding!!

Same for me. I've not even tried mine in but I know it won't fit and I'm not buying a new one.
I also hate the cold.
I have decided if the coat doesn't end up fitting in time, that will be my punishment Confused

A fast every second day. Short. Sharp. Effective. I have done fasts before and I find fasting easier than weighing washing chopping, thinking I cant do any extra thing right now! Today is day one. 4 September. Would have been nice to have started on the 1st, but.... I will do this. With coffee with a bit of almond milk in it. That's low in carbs so doesnt cause a big insulin spike that'd ruin a fast. Not doing it for the autophagy though.
I couldnt face a "fast" without coffee so definitely doing it my way.

I'm exactly the same OP - I was a size 10/12 and now rather annoyingly over the summer months am bigger as I can't even get into one pair of jeans. The fasting sounds doable. How long do you think it will take you to lose the weight OP ?

PaleGreenGhost · 04/09/2021 12:45

Argh same here. The jacket does up but now makes me look matronly.

OP are you fasting the whole day every other or within defined hours?

Totally agree fasting requires less mental energy in many ways. I found 16:8 quite doable because of this. Once on a fast, you kind of switch off the food thoughts for a bit. Where I struggle is timing the fasting around running (have to eat a little before) and timing the running around childcare and work.

leavesthataregreen · 04/09/2021 12:50

Lift weights too. It will tone the muscles and shrink the fat.

Well, I got to about two o'clock and I didn't do it! So I'm aiming to do it tomorrow. Once I get in to it, and have done it every second day for a week, I'll be in the zone! Last July + August 2020 i lost ten pounds fasting. I'm fatter now than I was then though. I really need to lose 15 pounds but I'm going to just start rather than feeling overwhelmed by how big I"ve somehow got.
Miraloma · 04/09/2021 21:26

Which parka is it? I'm currently browsing and feel like we could do a target/challenge as I reckon a medium would normally be okay but not right now!!

PearlyRising · 04/09/2021 22:27

Its the brooklyn

PearlyRising · 05/09/2021 07:29

It was a lovely warm waterproof coat but now I'm wishing I'd gone for a brand with a roomier size 12.

I failed in my attempt to do a fast yesterday which is stupid because I wasn't even that hungry when I ate, but today I will do it.

PearlyRising · 05/09/2021 07:30

It''was'' !!! Im talking about it like it's going to end up unworn. It won't. It will be worn again, this winter.
